Just got attacked by another dog Empty Just got attacked by another dog

Walking peacefully with Mani around Portobello Road (London) and out a corner comes a Yorkie running in our direction (please don't laugh Laughing ). I thought he was off the lead at first, but it turns out it was an extensible one that had been stretched to the max - not a good idea in a busy area if you can't see where your dog is going around a corner. I don't think the Yorkie bit Mani, at least I can't see any marks on him, but he was definitely within biting range. Perhaps its tiny mouth couldn't go around Mani's paws? It was barking and growling and Mani was spooked. I think I stepped on the thing a few things by accident as I was trying to pull Mani away. After about 10 seconds or so the owner came around the corner and pulled it away. She told me off I dont want to s for provoking a dog fight shame on you !!! Does she even realise how lucky she was Mani didn't bite back? I'm still a bit nervous as I just came off the street but even so am a bit proud that my dog behaved the right way. Whew.

Has anybody had similar experiences?

Don't know if anyone else knows this but if you are walking past someones garden or house with gates and the dog or dogs they own bark at you in an an aggressive manner you can report them to the police for harassment. under the Protection From Harassment Act 1997.

Aw there's a pug that 'fiercely' guards his front garden, I couldn't report him he's adorable with his 'go away I'm worried' yaps and his squishy lil face. Dexter tried to kiss him through the railings once he pulled me so hard and his tail was going round in circles with excitement at what he seemed to think was a new interactive toy Laughing I couldn't report him he's hilarious bless him Wink

I can only imagine the coppers face if i was to report a yorkie for harrassment. They would probably say a 6foot 15 stone skinhead with a staffie scared of a yorkie, and laugh it off.But it would cease to be funny if our dogs were to defend themselves like i would defend myself from an attacker

Its amazing that staffs get get such a da rap when most of the one i know just show a "bugger off titch" face when something yappy comes at them. Its almost like theyre saying your not worth my time be gone fur ball. But would just like to add that marley and laska have a good friend that is a jrt called nelly whos owner has socialised it correctly. To the point that riley my ex's massive staff cross mastiff protected her when a gsd lost it a bit to prey drive. seems size doesnt matter in the dog world and nelly is well part of the pac and protected by the pac. Just goes to show what happends when you have good owners

rolling on the floor rolling on the floor Ohhh thanks for the early morning crack up!! First one for the day rolling on the floor rolling on the floor

It does seem these yap yap dogs suffer from small dog syndrome, where they always seem out to prove how tough they are Laughing It is kinda funny and cute, it's just such a shame many of their owners suffer the same attitude and like nothin better than seeing a Staff to lay the blame on Rolling Eyes

Big Grin
Yep, it's that bit that I find totally unnecessary, much nicer when a noisy small dog owner smiles at you and rolls their eyes about their own dogs tenacious or ott behaviour then deals with it accordingly without making our staffs the villain.

Had a few issues with untrained lapdogs but Ledger is more comfortable with small dogs some of his best friends in the park are Dexter the pug/chiwawa (sp), Maxi the JRT and a minature poodle

Never had any experiences like that, but doesn't surprise me. God forbid an owner takes responsibility for their own dog's problems. I'd imagine it's mostly the owners of small dogs that aren't willing to see it as their dog starting it simply due to them not seeing anything wrong in what a small dog does. I'm sure if it was a Great Dane, it'd be a different story. Still, good that Mani didn't respond negatively to it Smile

I don't think it's anything to do with the smalle dogs, I'd say it's the owners letting them get away with any negative behaviours they develop simply because they're small and cute. Small dogs with responsible owners would probably always get along with any other dogs.

Personally I dont think barking or growling or jumping up on another dog can constitute what you call an attack, sounds more to me like rough housing and bad manners. A dog attack is totally different and very frightening no matter what the breed.

I dont particularly like those extendable leads that you cannot see, they are just like a fine wire and I have had several near misses with those while out walking Rocky. I'm sure one day I will get garoted by one of those things.
