MY BOY ATTACKED ANOTHER DOG
my neighbour came to my door with her new dog , Trouble and he have not met before , Trouble has only seen him from a distance but seemed to dislike him straight away , i said to my neighbour i would like them to meet but i want Trouble to have a muzzle on first for safe keeping , her dog by the way is a yorkie , so today she knocked on the door (i was not at home when it happened) with her dog, my hubby opened the door not expecting to be greeted by a dog and Trouble just flew past him and attacked the yorkie , hubby managed to get him off and they thought the yorkie was ok but i went round and had a look and there is a superficial wound but it did need a clean , i am so upset for 3 reasons 1. why did she come to my door with her dog when i had constantly told them Trouble needs to be muzzled before meeting new dogs 2. why did my hubby not shut the internal door which we always do because we often have casts sit on our door step and Trouble dont like them either 3. this aggression has occured since he was attacked himself . I cant even bear to look at him at the moment . do you think he was just defending his territory?
i need help and advice plz

Yes. I think he was defending his territory.
He should arguably have been introduced to the other dog on neutral ground.
It's not his fault really, is it. So give him a cuddle, not a glare.

Re: MY BOY ATTACKED ANOTHER DOG
I deffinantly dont think it was his fault and as you have pointed out the reasons that annoyed you all could have avoided this happening.
If a dog mine did not know was at the door i think even stan who loves everyone and everything would have a pop tbh.
The first time they met my brothers new staff, we went out for a walk round teh block allowing them too sniff each others bottoms etc.
Give him a cuddle & kiss it aint his fault. xx

Bless trouble, he prolly thought 'wtf is this thing coming to my house for' !
Not his fault or the yorkies.... Tbh who just turns up at someone's house with a dog ?! Best introduce dogs on neutral territory to avoid territorial behaviours.
Anyway, don't blame Trouble x he was only following instinct x

Re: MY BOY ATTACKED ANOTHER DOG
ahh thankyou , TBH it is not the first time they have come to the door with the dog last week it was quite late and at the time i thought how stupid but Trouble was upstairs asleep but this time he heard him barking and apparently he just flew down the stairs ,he has actually hurt his leg which if you had seen previous posts took over a year to heal , So i am somewhat peeved and no doubt because of thoughtlessness the breed has been blamed , oh well i couldnt stay cross with him for long and the yorkie has only a scratch although quite a big one

Re: MY BOY ATTACKED ANOTHER DOG
Not his fault, I think dogs do better when they meet outside first. One of the dogs Loki sees often is a German Shepherd who barks at all the other dogs except for two, but when she and Loki walk together around the field, after a few minutes they can both walk next to each other happily without any issues. So I'd say walking does them good, as opposed to just having a dog show up at your house. Give the guy some affection

Give Trouble a big hug, it was definitely a territory thing. My neighbour has a grumpy old terrier who always barks at Ledger in the park and he couldn't care less doesn't bat an eyelid, but when she is let to run out along the path at the back of the house if she pokes her nose under the gate he does get snappy

Re: MY BOY ATTACKED ANOTHER DOG
Read this through a couple of times and still doesn't sound like your dogs fault. If someone arrives on your door step with a dog they must expect something like that to happen. Lots of big hugs needed ><
