Poorly baby
Newbie here so hello everyone. Help needed please if poss please. I have a 13 week old female staffy who, long story short has been diagnosed with a uterus infection. We got her when she was 7 weeks old and noticed after 2 days of bringing her home she had a green mucus like discharge coming from her vulva. She is halfway through her second 2 week course of antibiotics and is not getting any better. She still hasn't had her first jab yet due to being on antibiotics Has anybody else had this issue with their little girl and if so what treatment worked? Any help would be much appreciated as I just want my poor baby to get better. Thank you

Re: Poorly baby
Hello and welcome.
Congrats on your new little one, even if she is causing you so much concern already.
I would definitely get back to vets (or another for second opinion).
No pup should be leaving breeder before 8 weeks old minimum and Antibiotics should have had their effect after a few days, definitely within your 4 weeks of treatment !
Have you/can you get in touch with those who sold you your pup to try to get an idea of cause of infection too ?

Re: Poorly baby
Hello and thank you for your reply.
I think the so called breeder just did it for the money and wanted to get rid as soon as she could tbh, which in this case is a good thing she did as I got in touch with her today and she was apparently unaware of the infection.
I am planning on taking her to a different vet tomorrow for a second opinion, definitely doesn't seem right that the infection hasn't cleared up after being on antibiotics for so long. Puppy seems ok in herself, she has a very healthy appetite, typical staffy lol but I am quite concerned that after all this time she is showing no improvement.
Hopefully will be able to get an appointment at different vets tomorrow and get some answers, fingers crossed will get my baby on the road to recovery really soon.
Will keep you posted.
Thanks again x

Re: Poorly baby
Good luck for tomorrow and do let us know how you get on.
Oh, and maybe try to mention everything you can think of regarding Lexa’s new home to your vet. What and how much you feed her, how often she drinks and goes to the toilet, etc.

Re: Poorly baby
Hi & welcome.
I'd also recommend a 2nd opinion. If she has a uterus infection (Pyometra), she may need to be spayed to get rid of it. I wouldn't normally advocate neutering at such a tender age, but it may be necessary. Certainly, in an older bitch, Pyometra is almost always a spay.
I would also advise your local council - as from 1st October, it is illegal to sell a pup under 8 weeks old. If they breed regularly they will almost certainly do it again.

Re: Poorly baby
Hope your girl is ok. Definitely sounds like a second Vet opinion is necessary. I echo what Gilly says, definitely contact your council.

Re: Poorly baby
Thank you gillybrent and Misty's Mum for your replies. Will be phoning the vets soon to try and get her in today, hopefully the fact that the antibiotics haven't worked hasn't hindered or made her worse in any way. Will let you know how it goes x

Re: Poorly baby
Thank you everyone for your replies. So I managed to get her into the vets tonight, not long got back. She wants to test the discharge to see if it is an antibiotic resistant bacteria or just vaginitis and she is not concerned as my fur baby is eating drinking and toileting ok. Typically she had no discharge at the vets so will have to take her back when she has a day where she has lots of it. Vet said it was nothing serious so i feel so much better now. Thank you all so much for your replies and help x

Re: Poorly baby
What a relief that it’s not too serious !
Always worth keeping an eye but to concentrate on onwards and upwards now, time to really enjoy your pup

It is great news, to say i'm relieved is an understatement. She had her swab done today and we get the results back early next week then we can get her jabs done and get her out x

Re: Poorly baby
Hi guys, just had a call from the vet and it is fantastic news, she just has vaginitis which needs no treatment and will clear up on it's own after her first season. I am soooo happy and have her booked in for her first jab tomorrow
