Interested to hear peoples opinions on spaying? What’s the best age? Do you spay? if so why? And if not why?

Spaying Empty Re: Spaying

We had Misty spayed. She was 17 months old, we were planning to wait for another month so it was a few months after her second season but a suspected pryomeytra meant her op was brought forward. We spayed for many reasons, first and foremost we are not breeders and she was never going to be a pup machine for us. Also when she was in season I felt it was hard on her walking her super early and late at night and keeping her to boring street walks so we wouldn't meet any males. Also when she was in season she got very stressed by any mess she made and I didn't like seeing her like that. I've never regretted having her spayed.

My Flo was spayed when we got her from rescue but I would have done anyway for the same reasons as Emma above. Some say that it should be done after the first season, some say the second some say before.

I was going to wait for Katy's 2nd season but she had a phantom pregnancy I would never want to see her go through another so she was done around 18 months

no problem with neutering as long as it's done for tge right reasons & with full facts of pros & cons.

vets rarely give you the cons because, for various reasons, they WANT you to neuter your dog.

personally i wouldn't neuter, but if i did decide to i'd wait for full maturity which is different in every breed. For a stafford i'd say about 2 years old. most rescue dogs are neutered before being rehomed & i understand why.
