Sores in mouth.

Hi everyone.

My little lady has these sores on her mouth, the pet shop says it could be because she eats rawhide bones on one side and it's like a friction rub, I've been using RenaSan First Aid Spray which I was told is perfectly harmless if she gets it in her mouth, every time she comes in from outside, but it doesn't seem to be healing, should I just let it heal in the open? It's not bothering her when she eats or drinks, and she's as mad as a hatter running around. I've spoken to the vets, who want me to take her in, but I'd rather not waste 30 quid to be told it's something that can be rectified with ointments.

Do the sores clear up if she doesn't have the raw hide for a while? If so then I think you've probably found the answer but if not I think I'd get her checked at the vets just to be safe.

This is the first time it's happened. I've also been giving her Dentastix by the dozen, and again she eats them on that side too, So I'm not sure if it's all that thats taken it's toll?

i would also add that rawhide isn't good for dogs! it's full of chemicals that are used to clean & prepare it for sale, and those chemicals may be reacting with your dog's gums. also, when it gets into the stomach it swells, so if a dog swallows a larger piece it could easily cause a potentially fatal blockage.

it may be better to get a different type of chew, such as an antler?

personally, I'd never take the advice of a pet shop over a vet, especially as it might not be a friction problem.

Id definitely get your dog checked at a vet id maybe switch to a nyla bone or ask for a bone from the local butcher or antlers as already said

I agree with the above. Rawhide isnt great for dogs. Misty loves her stag bars and Nylabones. She loves a nice marrow bone from the butchers too. Hope it clears up soon.
