Swollen ear
Hi guys, my girl was playing in the garden today and after coming in I noticed that her right ear flap has swollen up. It feels quite spongy to touch and she's growling a lot when I try.
Does anyone know what this might be? My other half thinks it might go down in a couple of days but I'm a bit worried what it might be.
Thanks.

Re: Swollen ear
Could it be a wasp sting? There are a lot around here at the moment and they are all dozy before they hibernate.
Id take her to the vets to check if she is in pain.
Hope shes ok!

I would tend to agree with an insect bite or sting. If it doesn't start to go down after say 24 hours get a vet to take a look to be on the safe side. Let us know how you get on.

Re: Swollen ear
There are loads of wasps around at the moment. Dodger got stung on his side a few days ago. He yelped and ran round in circles, I then saw the wasp still on him and brushed it away. Poor Dodge was shaking and felt very sorry for himself for the rest of the day. I gave him a piriton to be on the safe side as he does have allergies, but he was fine by the next day.

Re: Swollen ear
how is she? if it hasn't gone down by now I'd ask the vet.
for the future, though, a Piriton tablet can make a huge difference if it is a bite/sting.

Re: Swollen ear
Hi,
I know this is an old topic, but i thought i would add to it just incase my experience can help future visitors!
So here goes it was Nancy (again) and not long after her allergic reaction, probably a day or two after the lumps had gone that i noticed both of her ears had swollen up , the were heavy and hung really low and Nancy couldnt really move them, i touched them and as described above they were spongy, so off we went to the vets..... the vet concluded that she had an ear infection (which she associated with the allergic reaction) and she must have been shaking her head violently or scratching her ears as a result, and causes them to fill up with blood/fluid, the vet administered some ear drops for the infection and gave us a couple of options with regards to the swollen ear flaps, we could either give it a few days and avoid her scratching them or shaking her head, and hope they go down by them selves, she could wear a funnel to stop her getting at her ears, (but Nancy didnt fancy that too much she wouldnt let the vet near her after the ear drops ) , or the other option was the vet could drain the ears but advised that sometimes they fill back up so this could be a pointless exercise , and due to Nancy being really stressed in the vets we decided to give it a couple of days and luckily they went back to normal with no lasting effects, so we were glad we gave it a few days to sort its self out!
i hope this helps!
