Swollen snout
Boss on Monday morning woke up with a swollen upper snout, and during the night I would wake up to him sitting on the other side of the room from his bed and was scared to go back to his bed, so I am thinking something bit him. It wouldnt have been from bees or wasps since it is -10c here, I am thinking it is a spider bite reaction maybe and went and got him Benadryl. I am wondering how long the reactions take to go down typically? Also it seems painful, or sensative as he moves from me touching around it. Otherwise he is eating and drinking the same.

Re: Swollen snout
ooh hope he is okay.
it's hard to say about the reactions because I think it would depend on the type of spider. Russ got bitten by a huntsman (which are mostly always harmless except a painful bite) and his snout was swollen for most of the day, but had gone down by that night.
did you have a look through his sleeping area to see if you could find a spider? I dont know what types you have there but theres a few here that can be deadly, you would want to make sure it's not a dangerous one

Re: Swollen snout
Not really up on what bitey/stingy things you got over there so not much help I'm afraid
Max had a swollen snout just before Christmas one morning, it looked horrible, all around his one eye was swollen as well, so we took him to the vets to be on the safe side (everyone in the waiting room moved outa the way pretty quickly when they saw him coming ) turned out to be an anapholactic (spelling ??) reaction to something (not sure what to this day??) but we decided against a jab in the end, and it went down a couple of hours later
Hope your boy is ok

Re: Swollen snout
Sorry to hear about Boss...bruno as been bitten twice by wasps through being nosie concerning a nest and i used vinegar to remove the swelling but it can't be used regarding the snout so i would give Boss a piriton tablet daily to see if it removes it.
All the best

Re: Swollen snout
So ended up going to the vets this morning because it was worse and the swelling had spread. When at the vets when the vet tried to lift his lip he yelped very loud and hid behind me, so definatly more then a bug bite, they have take him for xray and then surgery to remove whatever the cause is. They believe it could be a baby tooth that didnt come out and is causing a infection.
Now to await the call from the vet, but in the mean time am a very worried puppy mum.

Re: Swollen snout
Just got a call from the vet and they said they wont have to do surgery after all because the vet found a small fracture in his upper jaw after a xray and is the root of the problem and some antibiotics and anti inflammatory meds should clear it up. I believe the fracture was caused by him being so ungraceful on his feet he tends to run face first into walls and stairs when very excited so it wasnt overly suprising lol.

Re: Swollen snout
Aww hope the wee doggie is ok. Monty had the same-ish a few month ago. Mouth like an egg, it was very, very sad seeing him in that way. Turns out a Canine was growing through the gum, but split the gum and caused bacteria to get in and cause an abcess (sp?). Nothing Antibiotics didn't sort out though : )

Re: Swollen snout
Quick update, he is all back to normal now, still clumsy and not learned a leason from the fracture, but not allowed to run up and down the apartment stairs anymore without a leash on.
