Swollen Eyes
Troy's eye have swollen but no so bad that they are shutting or anything like that. Logic tells me he has had an allergic reaction to something.
Routine was exactly the same as any other day and he has not eaten anything different. It started maybe 30 minutes after coming from a walk in the woods. I'm thinking something on the walk has caused it or my brothers dog had something on his paws which reacted with Troy as he is always pawing Troy in the face to initiate play!
I don't want to be irrational and spend £80 + meds for an out of ours appointment when it must be an allergy. So I have given him half an antihistamine. it doesn't seem to be getting any worse. Is there anything else I can do like wipe his eyes with water or should I just leave it and see how he is in the morning?
If it goes down is there any need to go to the vets or pass it off as one of those things?
Thanks.

Re: Swollen Eyes
If he were mine and not getting worse I'd give antihistamine tab like u have , wipe eyes gently with cooled boiled water then put 2 drops of optrex in each eye (wont harm him, very soothing )
Keep a close eye on him but be prepared to drop and run to vets xxx
Poor sausage, hopefully it's just a sting or bite

Re: Swollen Eyes
Thanks.
It's not bothering him at all and he has not tried to itch them or anything. We have just got back in and he is just chilling and going to sleep.
I'll give them a wipe down but it doesn't appear to be getting worse at all but I'll keep an eye on him.
I thought it could of been a sting as there is a little round patch that has swollen by itself, but would that make both eyes swell up?

Re: Swollen Eyes
An allergic reaction can swell locally as well as effects generally.

Re: Swollen Eyes
If its an allergic reaction try Tesco own brand hayfever relief tablets. Just give half a tablet and see how it goes. I use them for Rocky and they work a treat for him. If you are conserned about administering tablets please consult the vet first:

Re: Swollen Eyes
Also, might be worth giving him the other half after 5 hrs or so..., just a thought. Also get some water in him x

Re: Swollen Eyes
Eyes are very important , maybe for peace of mind you go to the vet in surgery hours anyway for a second opinion if the reaction was severe enough to cause you concern in the first place ??

His eyes have completely gone to normal this morning. I'll keep a conscious eye on him and take him to the vets if anything happens again.

Thanks guys.
We have been out to the same woods etc since and he has been fine so maybe he was stung.

Re: Swollen Eyes
good bit of reassurance for you, I had a problem with Tommy when he came out in a rash after being in long grass , avoided it for a bit and though no we will try again as there's only 1 way to be definite , and he was absolutely fine
