My staffy puppy has a curled tail
Hello, I'm new here, so I apologize in advance if I do something incorrect. My question is, I have a four month old staffy puppy, her tail is curled, she carries it sort of
Ike a basenji. She can carry it low, and she was born and it was perfect up until about 12 weeks, then all of the sudden she started to just carry it curled. Has anyone heard of this before? Some people have told me it was due to teething, habit, all sorts of things. Any advise would be great. Thank you all

Re: My staffy puppy has a curled tail
Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
I'm moved your post to here as it will get more views, hope you don't mind.
I've heard of this tail issue before and if I remember correctly it can be an issue with the bones. I don't think it caused any health problems just that it looks a little out of sorts on a Staffy. The only way to really find out what is going on is to visit the vets and maybe have an X-ray done.
I'll take a look back through the forum and see if I can find the thread for you.

Re: My staffy puppy has a curled tail
This is the thread I was thinking of:-
https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/t59396-tail-not-right?
And a link to Limber Tail:-
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limber_tail_syndrome
Please don't get too worried on looking at the second link, it may well not be this that's causing the problem which is why a vets trip is best
Do let us know what you find out

Re: My staffy puppy has a curled tail
Hi and welcome from me and mine
I'd second Ian's advice to get the vet to have a quick look. If it's purely aesthetic then don't worry about it (here speaks a person who has a dog born with no tail!), but it's best to check that it's not painful or otherwise causing a current or potential future issue.

Hi & welcome from Koda and I in Oz
I can only echo the advise above, quite possibly all is well but best to get it checked if you're worried.

Re: My staffy puppy has a curled tail
it does happen, but causes no ill-effects.
it certainly isn't Limber Tail.

Re: My staffy puppy has a curled tail
I updated my profile pic, with a pic to show her tail, as I don't know how to add more pics in here ☹. I will continue to look around and hopefully figure it all out

To post a picture look at the boxes above where you type and in the top right corner you'll see the you tube icon, 3 Icons to the left of that click on the floppy disk looking Icon and then it will give you an option to upload a picture. Once it's uploaded copy the IMG code and paste into the reply box.

At least your mind is at rest knowing that there is nothing actually wrong with her tail

Re: My staffy puppy has a curled tail
I noticed by looking through some old threads that there was some people on here that have had staffords with curly tails, but the forums is several years old, I was wondering how the pups turned out? Any recent pics? Did the tails ever straighten?

Re: My staffy puppy has a curled tail
her tail won't straighten - it's her spine, after all & that's just the shape it is! And all the more beautiful for it.
i haven't been on here that long, so i don't know about any others with curly tails.

Re: My staffy puppy has a curled tail
She does get lots of compliments for it, I think it makes her much cuter, but every where we go people keep asking me what she's mixed with! A Besenji? Lol! I own momma, and Daddy I witnessed the breeding one and only time... So no chance of mistaken breeding, I guess it's something in the genetics. Too bad, I was hoping for a show baby but I think she's gonna excel at lure coursing, she loves to chase !!
