Any ideas
For about a week now Vinnie has been shaking his head,,, upon inspection he seem to have some very dark wax surfacing in his ears,,,,,, I have cleaned them a few times but keep-s appearing . He now has like grainy stuff on his nose and lip which is bloodywhen I have removed it with warm water and cotton wool. Could it be ear mites ? or is it food related as for last few weeks have had to go- from his usual flavour of nature diet which is Rabbit and Turkey ,,,,,,, as they now have stopped doing it, All they have now is Chicken and lamb or chicken and turkey,,,,, he is not good with chicken so just wondered if could be relevant,,,,,,,,, any ideas?I have him booked in at vets tomorrow evening xx

Re: Any ideas
Could the lip and nose problem be from scratching it Inez? That might suggest that it's the food that's irritating him. I'm not the best to offer advice about the ears but I guess it could be mites

Re: Any ideas
you could try using Thornit (used to be called canker powder) which gets rid of ear mites. very effective, and much cheaper than vets!
but if you're not certain it's mites then maybe the vets are your best option. i wouldn't have thought it would be the food.

Re: Any ideas
I have thornit here but understood it was only to be applied around top of the ear and not down inside? and as its grainy doesnt stick so could I use something like coconut oil first and then the thornit?

Re: Any ideas
from what i remember (i haven't used it in years!) you sprinkle it around the inner base of the ear. i THINK you then massage the ear ? I wouldn't use oil first because it will stick to tge oil & not drop into the ear canal.
i am talking from memory, though!
