Re: Dog eating everything
Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
How old is Diesel? I'm not sure what to suggest just at the moment but will have a think. I would imagine others on the forum might have some ideas for you though.

Re: Dog eating everything
perhaps diesel needs time to settle down hes still a pup too have u thought of putting some.of your old clothing/towels where he sleeps routine is very very important be consistent and avoid sudden changes in his routine a frozen kong will keep him occupied as will nylabones and a tug toy id also groom him more often im not saying he needs it but it helps them trust u and bond with you play some games practice commands if u have implemented any.

Re: Dog eating everything
All questions are fine it all leads to helping him were not sure on his history as my sister picked him up for us he's really nervous around people outside and doesn't get on well with loud noises which is why we're pavement walking him at the moment to get him used to the sounds we don't to think the previous were very nice to him and didn't or hardly walked him he's very loving but nippy we give him his rawhide chew he is due to be neutered next week as well as having his last injections so he can mix with other dogs safely and help him become immune to certain pet illnesses is it safe to neuter him this early ( around 5 months ) he sits on command and trying to get him to learn leave it thank you all for your help

Re: Dog eating everything
Having the TV on might help him with some of the noise sensitivity, we played cop shows/gangster movies a lot so that Gizmo would be better with bangs and yelling.
I muzzle-trained Gizmo for pavement walks because of the gross things he managed to eat, but that's more a quick-fix short term thing.

Re: Dog eating everything
Eating everything - maybe Diesel wasn't fed in his past house and was scavenging so badly that he has eaten sticks etc in the past?
What kind of state was he in when he came to you?
Because he is young - she has only just finished teething. Dogs teeth at approx 4 months. So it makes sense that he wants to chew everything. Do you know what a stag bar is? My dog loves these and they are indestructible - just google them. Nylabone - as mentioned above - is also v good. As soon as you see your dog chewing something he shouldn't, substitute for something she should. (ps I think all Staffies chew like mad at the beginning - your dog is not deranged!)
Any dog who finds herself in a new environment is going to act up a bit anyway - the whole thing must be incredibly stressful, especially if the dog has a bad history where things were unpredictable and frightening. He is probably expecting you to dump him at any minute.
What do you know about his growing up/background?
What's he like with you and family/other dogs/being in public?
PS well done for rescuing and hang in there. Things will get better.
PPS everyone on here is crazy about dogs/Staffies so no worry too small, no problem too big.

Re: Dog eating everything
if he's nervous, i would hold off neutering him just yet.
the hormones released over the next few months will help him mature & become more self-confident. Without those, he may stay permanently nervous, & mayceven get worse.
you might like to look into getting an Adaptil plug-in (or spray or collar) which releases calming pheramones (sp?). they're a little expensive, but worth the money if it works.
in the meantime try to keep all his experiences positive - easier said tgan done, i know!
Re: eating everything. try spraying something (like Bitter Apple) on the things he mustn't chew, and be prepared to consistently stop him whenever he 'mouths' something he shouldn't. teaching him "leave" is a good idea. Sometimes, chewing comforts a dog & the nervousness might be the cause (of course, some dogs just like chewing !).
please stay away from rawhide, especially if he's likely to swallow pieces - it's full of chemicals which are used to clean tge hide, but it also swells in the stomach which could cause a blockage. Nasty stuff.

Re: Dog eating everything
hi well done for homing your new baby ... he is young and teething and chewing is natural at this age and being in a new environment will make him nervous which will increase it ..all the advice as ever is spot on ..My Buddy is 14 months and still chews any bed I put in his crate so I just go to the charity shops and but old blankets curtains or towels ..I gave up with a bed all his bedding have a massive holes in the middle ... I have a flat cushion type bed on the floor I used this bed when training him so getting him to sit on it and treating , getting him to sit on it when doing stay .. that way he started to associate the bed with good things and so far 8 months in he hasn't chewed it all and eats all his treats and kongs on it - I have a kong bone - godsend when he gets a bit nippy or has something he shouldn't have , the bone with a smear of peanut butter on calms him right down - smaller than the big kongs I fill with kibble so works a treat -or a frozen carrot keeps him amused for hours ..it does get less as they get older , I haven't had Buddy castrated yet let the hormones do their job and you will see a change in him then have him done when you feel he has settled , Buddy is still crated but only seems to destroy his blanket now .. it will get better the older and more settled he gets - hang in there will be so worth it....

Re: Dog eating everything
Id suggest going to puppy/dog training sessions he'll meet other dogs and people in a safe setting and boost his confidence and you may be asked by the training for one to one training, def hold off neutering until he is settled and confident as it could knock him off even more so.
Also in your profile picture i can see your very tense and holding his lead like that will only add to his uneasiness, drop her hand to your side and relax your posture and it will make a big difference, if you are relaxed then he will relax to and will help with his nervousness around people and on walks, that alone wont fix thing but will help allot.
