Rebellious stage? Empty Re: Rebellious stage?

Post by Skemmax Wed Feb 03 2016, 17:01

Hi was wondering if anyone has had similar experience. My boy Rocco is turning one this month. Over the last few weeks he's been abit of a nightmare it's been suggested that it's a hormonal thing. Roc has never chewed anything but recently has started tearing up anything he can get his paws on, he has always walked off his lead since he first started getting out but now we can't as he won't recall. He's also done the toilet inside a few times which again is totally out of character for him. Hoping this is just a temporary glitch but anyone has any similar experience and advice would be much appreciated

You could well be right, it may well be the teenage rebellious time. As hard as it is, go back to basics with the training. The good news is, it shouldn't last and should be quiet an easy process seeing as Rocco has done so well before.

It's not uncommon that youngsters go through phases of seeming to forget everything. I don't see it as rebellious as that would imply a dog knows how you see things and that he's doing something wrong, which they don't. They do push boundaries like kids do, to see what they can do and what they can't but not with a spirit of rebellion.

As Ian says, go back to basics, take as many steps back as you need to to get him back to a place you can praise and reward, then work forwards again and you should find it all slots back into place quite quickly.

Welcome! I have been thru this with my now 2yr old when he was of similar age, i couldnt believe it when he started goung toilet inside again as we were well out of that stage! He also became very destructive including eating my BBQ repeatedly, a screen door, outside power point & ripping the entire underhouse termite protection system out!!! Oh & 3 beds! We went back to basics, i cried on the forum many a time Laughing and we survived, hes now a pretty well balanced boy overall. He seems to have really grown up in the last 6 mths in particular. I know how stressful it is when you're in it there seems no end BUT rest assured there is, go back to basics, invest the time as much as poss to reinforce & reward the good behaviour then wean it back when behavior improves.
We're always here to bend an ear, & theres many diff levels of experience(s) here Smile

hi - going through this with Buddy he is a year old this month - and is pushing the boundaries taking things that are not his, chewing, jumping on the cat all the things he had gotten out of - I am going back to basics again and also signed him up for some more obedience classes even though he knows most of the commands etc. - but just to reinforce them again - I have friends with Staffies and they have all been through it and all have lovely little fellas now - keep going it will be worth it ..

the key is consistency and patience id also not have a lot of changes in the home this can affect thsm also. it does get better invest in a long line until his recall is up to scratch again this will prevent him running away. clean any mess at home with soap powder and water dnt make a fuss . kongs and nylabones will help with chewing make sure everyone at home does exactly the same things with him so he doesnt get a mixed message with regards to training Smile

Una joined our family in Nov at 6 and a bit months old and she's only now settling down at 9 months old from manic hyper to energetic - does this mean we've got a rebellious stage ahead of us? nail biting Laughing
