Puppy weight? :o
So my pup, Jake, is supposedly a pure staffy, possibly with some mixed blood a couple generations back, but both parents are staffies (not registered or anything, though. I mean, it's not a big deal for me). However, I'm kinda concerned he and his litter mates are growing a bit too big to be staffies?
Saw a post by the breeder (who kept one of the pups) that their male puppy is 10kg (22lb) at 2.5 months old! I'm not sure how much Jake weights now, he was about 3.5-4k on his first visit and he's going today again for the second round of injections, he's just so HEAVY. (I'd know, I have to carry him down two flights of stairs to take him out every time ).
I didn't know staffies were meant to grow quite so heavy?

Re: Puppy weight? :o
hi - My Buddy was 3.5 kg at 10 weeks and is now 13.5 kg at 6 months.. he isn't particularly big just very stocky and solid..
not sure if it helps but your vet should be able to offer some advice on his breed and diet , as long as his diet is good and he gets the right amount of exercise he may just be a big boy.. how big were the parents ?

Re: Puppy weight? :o
Jake was over 3.5kg (the scale wasn't super accurate cause he kept moving... but between 3.6-4 or so) at 8 weeks old. Like I said, now he's MUCH heavier and bigger than back then. He's 10 weeks old now (11 on Wednesday actually! He should've really gone to the vet last Friday but I had a doctor's appointment so he's going today) and I wouldn't be surprised if he'd more than doubled in weight since then!
As for his parents, I've not met his dad, but his mother is pretty huge. Not sure on a weight but she climbed on me for kisses and she was HEAVY. Very much so.

Re: Puppy weight? :o
I wouldn't worry too much have a chat with the vet to be sure, his diet is correct , but if the parents are big the chances are he will be - Buddy's dad was huge - not very tall but had the biggest head and chest I have ever seen - wouldn't want him sitting on my lap that's for sure- think Buddy is going to be like him...

Re: Puppy weight? :o
We have two staffie x mastiff puppies who were 4kg at 8 weeks, 6 kg at 10 weeks and 7.6 kg at 8 weeks. They are now 16 weeks and just under 11kg. My staffie I had before these only weighed 12.4 kg at her full weight xxx

If your boy isn't KC registered there is a good chance he wouldn't conform to standard weight wise as there may be a cross in there somewhere. Dont worry they come in all different shapes and sizes he may well just be a big boy. If you have any pics of your pup we all love to see them

Re: Puppy weight? :o
So, came back from the vet, he's slightly over 6kg now at almost 11 weeks.
Now I'm also wondering if his sibling (who was smaller than him when we last saw them at 8 weeks old) isn't 10 pounds rather than kgs! Mostly cause I wonder how exactly he could be 4kg heavier than his other siblings.
And here's a picture of him

Re: Puppy weight? :o
Omg he is so cute looks every bit staffy to me. Probably just abit more leggier thats where the weight is comming from we found that Harley rapidly put on weight untill 6 months then it slowed and hes been roughly the same weight from about 9-10 months.

He's very gorgeous and looks spot on weight wise. I think your wonder about the 10kg might be right.

Re: Puppy weight? :o
My Spud was 4.5kg at 9 weeks. He'll be getting weighed on Thursday,, but he is a lot bigger. He is purebred to breed standard so although he is quite chunky, i don't think he's too far away from the 'norm'.
I have a few pictures of his dad as a pup and now as an adult, and my boy looks almost identical...I really hope he's grows to be as handsome as his Dad.

Re: Puppy weight? :o
Jake looks fab and certainly not over weight but as to how heavy he will be eventually is a bit of a guess I suppose. Males are heavier than females and I have seen a real variety of heavy, super heavy and just kinda medium sized. Thing is, just like humans they come in all sorts of sizes.
Spud looks fab in that pic too Si. Are you thinking of showing him when he's older ?

Thanks Ian..I think he's a handsome chap but then again im biased...Quite a few people have mentioned that to me and i actually wouldn't mind, as long as the show scene isn't too cliquey and also that he enjoys himself.
I will be joining my regional SBT club at the start of October so i might drag him into the ring....once he's learned to behave himself first!

Re: Puppy weight? :o
They are a very bulky heavy breed anyway, but with a cross in there of god knows what it could end up a very large dog.

Re: Puppy weight? :o
Mine's a staffy/JRT cross and at 8 or 9 weeks was 2.4 KG! She's now nearly 14 mths old and 14.5 KG. It's more interesting when you have a cross as you have no idea what you'll end up with! Like your pup, mine looks like 100% staff most of the time. Those staffy genes must be strong!
