Help! My Staffy keeps chewing his left paw. It's getting bad.
Hi, my Staffy has been chewing his left paw for awhile. I didn't realize it was a problem until I noticed his front left paw was getting red, puffy, and sensitive. I took him to the vet and she said he may have an allergic reaction. She recommended we soak his paw 2-3 times a week with a special shampoo and dry his paws completely. We did that but still no success. He was still chewing his paw. Then we switched his dog food to a grain free kangaroo dog food. I thought that would do it but after finishing the 2nd bag of dog food he was at it again. Now we have him on eukanuba dog food and still same results. It seems to be getting worse. Has anyone seen this with staffies? Any help or suggestions? I feel so bad for him and don't know what to do.

Hi if u have eliminated possible allergies to food, have you tried thornit powder? A few members have used this and is highly recommended. If your dog walks on grass when they come back from a walk wash the paws in warm water and dry thoroughly

I've never heard of thornit, will look into it and give it a try. Thanks for the advice.

I've used Thornit and it worked a treat on one rear paw but not the other. As you've probably gathered, my Flo nibbles her rear paws and they do get inflamed and sore but we catch it as soon as we see her going at it.
We wash her paws in salt solution and treat with Thornit as long as there are no sores.
One thing to consider, if they have pain in a joint in the leg they can do what's called pain transfer and nibble the closest bit to that pain I.E. The paw, so might be worth getting that leg checked out to eliminate anything else.
