8 Year old staffy, starting chewing zips!

This has goto be the weirdest thing you have ever heard lol but i've got a 8 year old red and white staffy, KC and pedigree,

I spoil him rotton he gets everything, but he also knows the rules. hes extreamly trained. if someone comes in the house and he gets excited i click my fingers and he goes straight to his bed, just thought i'd make that out incase someone thought he might feel the alfa male in the house, he most deffinitly is not.

it started last week he chewed the whole zip off my sons coat. i just assumed my son may of spilt somthing on it that blade liked but this morning i caught him chewing the zip off the cushion on my sofa. he knew instantly he was in trouble and i punished him.

but i need heklp to stop this before it gets worse, i dont want to be locking him in rooms at night because of this i just dont know what to do. please help

how many time does you walk per day and how long for?

Have you tried keeping jackets etc out of reach? Apply Vicks to anything else with a zipper

i dont really walk him alot as hes an extreamly lazy dog and hes extreamly violent to other dogs that get in his face. if they walk past hes fine, he doesnt even look at him but if they get in his face he really doesnt like it, i''ve got a stupid naghbour with a staffy cross that refuses to walk him with a lead, so they always clash and my dog ends up biting his. My dog is really big and heavy so i cant really lift him every time another digs runs up into his face.


I've never ehard of the vix method, does that really work well? ive been moving coats since that happend but this time he get the coushon

it's only at night time he chews. Hes got a bed in the bedroom with us so he feels like hes close but he prefers it downstairs. In the day time he has toys but they only last second untill there destroyed.

Vicks tastes horrible to them and if you apply it to something you don't want them to chew it will prevent the behaviour.

They are a high energy breed though and need to be walked twice a day for 45 minutes. If they aren't properly exercised they get bored and find other ways to release their energy which is normally bad behaviour. Is there a place you could drive him to and walk him to get exercise?

i used to walk him all the time but hedoesnt like it lol he likes the idea but as soon as i get down the street he wants to come back he just like to slob out, hes the most relaxed dog ive ever met, but ill apply vix to zips and ill walk him if its going to help weather he likes it or not. i dont want him to be a bad dog hes been the best dog i've ever had for 8 years

you need to walk him before using vix

walking him will fix the problem surely u dont to walk around smelling like vix

can only agree with Steve tbh , other than bad puppy behaviour , the only time we get problems with ours is when they have been housebound
