Hi all,

I'm after some advice please. Misty has been a nightmare today and yesterday. Hubby took her for a walk yesterday and she was completely unresponsive to him while out. We always make her wait at roads and give the ok when we can cross. She ignored him and jumped into the road, luckily it was empty. She pulled the whole walk. Last night we took her to the park and I held her lead. She pulled me the whole way and completely ignored anything i said. I like to walk her on the side of the houses and so I'm roadside, normally when she drifts towards the roadside I just say ,'this way please' and she shifts back to the house side. Last night she was walking road side and ignored me. We got to the park, put her on the training long lead and she just pulled on that which is unlike her. She was so unresponsive to us, even asking her if she would like a biscuit which normally means her head whips round to face us, last night it took ages for her to look at us. Today hubby has told me that he cut their walk short. He and Misty were walking down the road and a lady and baby in a buggy were shutting their front door and Misty started growling at them. Now when we first got her she wasn't used to having a walk so she used to bark and growl at anything and everything. the last few months she has come on leaps and bounds, she is good with people and other dogs. It's like she had reverted back to when we first got her. Now I'm not sure but suspect this may have something to do with the following. Last Thursday hubby took her to toilet first thing in the morning and said she went mad sniffing the grass outside our house. She was obsessed with it, we didn't think much of it until she came back to bed but wouldn't settle, she would jump down and start barking at any noise she heard which is unlike her. We have no idea what animal might have been outside the house to make her so edgy, we have tried to reassure her but and she has been ok for a few days, however last night she was in the bed and it was like she was on guard or something. She couldn't settle and flew off the bed if she heard anything even it it was us making a noise. Also I've noticed she has very gunky eyes at the moment, i dont know if it's hayfever?? But last night i was constantly cleaning her left eye.could anybody offer any advice? I want her to feel settled at home again but whatever is outside has definitely unsettled her. I think these may have contributed to her barking at people as if she is feeling a bit off then shes showing it by growling and obviously whatever she can smell outside is stressing her out. Also outside there are no visible signs of disturbance etc.

Could be irritated by hay fever. If so I know how she feels, the grass pollen is the worst I've ever know it this year. With bad hay fever it's not just a few sneezes, it's as debilitating as a mild case of flu, so if she's got a bad dose of grass pollen allergy then that could be why she's irritable. I know I am right now!

I'd have a chat with your vet regarding the eye, and also has she healed up okay from the op? - with the behaviour I would just say to go back to basics and keep being consistent - don't be disheartened. Bug acts like this at times - usually when something in her routine has changed or I'm not well.

Thanks for the advice everyone it's much appreciated. I rang the vets last night and they said I'm ok to give her half a piritin a day and that if she continues with her gooey eye to bring her in. So off I ran last night to boots and bought her the piritin. Put a half tablet in her dinner last night and again this morning and her eyes are much better. Not completely clear but better and she seems a lot happier today. We took her out for a walk this morning and she was fantastic. We were walking and she saw loads of people and she was great. We saw two dogs being walked together, black lab and a small white one, they went absoutely crazy when they saw misty, barking and lunging. The guy who was walking them ( we think possibly a walker from the nearby vets) turned and crossed the road when he saw us. We made misty stop and wait for them to get further away before we carried on. The dogs still hasn't stopped barking and lunging and they guy was struggling to control them, then we watched as an older man with a little dog came down the road and again the dogs went crazy. And the guy with the two again turned around and headed back to us. So we took misty back the way we came, didn't want her near those dogs. So we walked down another road and then what do we had ten minutes later, the guy with those two dogs again, they had walked past a house whose dog had barked and it set them off. We just took misty around the corner and made sure he wasn't following as i didn't want her to start barking. But what a little angel, she didn't bark once even though i wouldn't have blamed her if she did. I really think maybe she was grumpy from maybe a pollen allergy or something as today she is a lot happier. Bless her it must of really been irritating her.
