weeing in his bed - why ??
hi - Buddy is being crate trained had a few issues with it at the start and discussed on a previous post- issues sorted - he goes in his crate when told - sleeps in it no problem- majority of the time he is dry in it only really has an accident if I am not quick enough to let him out when he cries when he wakes up so no complaints there really, and I expect some accidents he has only been with us two weeks and in the crate on his own for that time without his siblings.
I have been leaving the crate door open during the day so he can go in and out himself so he gets used to it as being his place, for his quiet moments and he uses it to hide his treats or his toys and we use it to try and train him with sit and stay ( getting it slowly) so he is not scared of the crate in anyway
but he has developed a very strange habit, he will ask to go out in the garden and go and wee and do number twos and then comes straight back in and wees on his bed in the crate , its not a what I would call a proper wee more like a marking type thing but I am not sure why, I don't have another dog - although I do have a cat but the cat has never been near his bed or anything like that - in fact they are keeping their distance from each other at the minute .. could he be marking it as his to keep the cat away ?.. but hen he doesn't do it all the time.
He runs past the one remaining puppy pad and straight in the bed .. or sometimes he does it on the blanket we put on the sofa that he lays on when he sits with us,when it is on the floor never done it on the sofa ( yet ) .. if he wasn't going out and doing it in the garden at all I would maybe think he didn't know that was where he had to go
.. its all a bit odd any ideas any one ?

Re: weeing in his bed - why ??
At his age they wnt have full control of their bladder i would just wash his bed with soap powder. He is going outside to wee just plenty of praise when he does go and ignore any accidents. You should now teach the dog to whine at the door when he needs for example stand at the main door and use the word such as wee wee's or whatever command you use. Its excellwnt and well done you on him weeing outside at his age

Re: weeing in his bed - why ??
hi everyone- I changed Buddys bed and now he has stopped weeing in the crate but I have been leaving it shut during the day so not sure if it is the reason he hasn't done it - because he cant get in there to do it ! - he still does it on his blanket on the floor if I am not quick enough to get him outside but not every time..- sometimes he will go outside and wee and then come in and go on his blanket straight away .I have been using the Get off deodoriser spray on everything he wees on but it doesn't stop him - he doesn't use the puppy pads now at all- its outside or blanket .. very frustrating

Re: weeing in his bed - why ??
thanks - I am trying most of what is on the link ..maybe time will tell.. the only bit I am not managing to do is to put him on the lead when I see him wanting to go - two reasons -one he does not like the lead he runs away - and two he goes to wee so quickly I would never get it on..
I am lead training him every day some are better than others at the minute - he is still not allowed out for another three weeks due to not having his injections until I got him at 10 weeks ..

My dog used to do that wee outside poo inside then all of a sudden he just stopped and he's perfect now. I dont know how old your dog is but assuming hes a pup he might just grow out of it like mine. I never told my dog off just praised him when he weed outside.

Re: weeing in his bed - why ??
he is getting better - he can go a lot longer in between going now, he is 13 weeks ..I think he is/was confused at first as his breeder put the puppy pads in the crate with the litter , but my crate is not big enough to do that so I think he thought he could still go in his bed as it was a soft surface .. now I think he knows not to do it in the bed but still thinks anything soft is a puppy pad out of his bed - partly because he has been sitting on the puppy pads to play with his toys,so I do not think he has understood which one is his pad and which one is his blanket, so I have taken the puppy pads away - and hopefully he will learn that the only place he wees is outside..we will see ...trying to use the lead as often as I can ..

Re: weeing in his bed - why ??
well buddy seems to have cracked weeing in his bed - does it only now and then if playing I think he forgets where he is he goes when out on a walk or in the garden 99% of the time now -no more puppy pads in the house .. although last night he got told off for being very naughty and deliberately pulled his crate cover on the floor stood on it and weed - looked at me and I swear he smiled - walked off and sat down to play as if nothing happened !
