No weeing?
HI all, we have had Alfie just over 2 weeks now so still early days. As I've mentioned before, he was only walked once a week by his previous owners. He will still not wee/poo while out, in fact he hardly smells what other dogs have done before him, when he does there is little interest. Our old dog would sniff everywhere and wee on everything until nothing came out! At least we knew she was exercised and also empty, especially if you were then going out for a bit. Alfie is just interested in marching and looking out for cats, people and dogs! Today we had a lovely 2 hour walk up to the beach, nothing until we got in and he had a wee in the garden!
Any ideas why he does this or tips?

Re: No weeing?
Darcy likes to go in the garden and will only go outside if she's desperate. Perhaps it's just that everything is new and he's still settling in.

Janey nothing inside for a week. He will only seems to do it at night and then he has asked to go a few times and we managed to get to let him out in time (he sleeps downstairs).
You could be right Hayley, I know it sounds strange but there is a satisfaction knowing they are nicely tired and empty

Re: No weeing?
It could be that Alfie is settling in. If he was only walked once a week previously, he probably got used to the idea that at home was the only place to do his doings (well, it had to be, given his circumstances). The once a week walk was also probably such an excitement for him that weeing and pooing came very low on his list of priorities when on his precious walk.
I'm sure he'll relax and settle down in time. Maybe try taking him for a walk as soon as he wakes up in the morning to get him into the idea?

Good point Lynda, he is very busy marching and looking everywhere.
Cant take him straight out as have 2 children to get up and ready and can't expect him to wait that long! Lol We walk him to school though and then the two of us continue after for a longer walk.

I don't think Daisy had been walked much before I had her, she didn't sniff much and was scared of everything! Didn't have to doing her business problem though

Re: No weeing?
One way would be to use a trigger word for him to wee/poo in the garden, like "wee wee" or "empty". Once he associates the word with the act in the garden, you can try using it outside & he might respond!
Make sure you have some treats handy just in case he does do it!

Re: No weeing?
Thanks Caryll we have been doing that from the start but hasn't helped yet. We will continue though.
Although he is quick to come and sit for treats at home, he has absolutely no interest in them when we are out. Never had a dog that wasn't a foodie in or out! Lol
