getting there, race ready
this was from a couple of weeks ago, did have cam on for run today but soo muddy it lasted about 5 mins before you couldnt see anything lol. first race of season next week. Stowe pace setter which is a fast and quite untechnical course. should be fun apart from the ungodley check in time...extreamly grumpy about that... getting up at 05:30am on a sunday...
so far we have been pacing times better than most pure breeds,,, big up the staffy crosses

Re: getting there, race ready
unfortunatley UCSC only allow one dog bikejor as two dogs is deemed dangerouse...cough realy? they are responsible for most races in the UK so i will have to pull my girl out and race marley which is pants as they run so well together. just hoping they change the rules soon as its becoming more popular with people and two dogs and my girl loves her run but i trained marley on all the directions so she follows himjshrew wrote:Looking great, I need another dog

Re: getting there, race ready
very annoying as my girl predicts nasties and shoves marley around them. he blindley follows my commands while she will think and look out for stuff. together they work great and are a great team so such a shame to split them. thankfully this weekend i can run them together as its an unsanctioned pace setter. 6k of flat straights, perfect!

Re: getting there, race ready
Seeing the latest vid, they look to work better than the one you posted a while back, much more co-ordinated. Would love to have two like yours to do this sort of thing but am happy seeing my girl darting thru the bushes squirrel chasing all the same... Always brings a smile seeing them loving life

Re: getting there, race ready
do it mate and dont worry about stopping for a pee lol. marley takes the most inopertune moments to go from running like a nutball to take a poop. funny running back with poop bags swining from your handle bars lol. the reason i like it is i cant off lead my dogs so it gives them a great outlet for the energy. personally i couldnt do canix as it is so physical on the human side and staffies love to run fast and hard. the problem i have at the mo is the staffy drive and desire to go like the clappers, show them a 6k route map and they will go "okay think i can do that at 90mph the whole way" and they will try too which isnt good. main thing i have learnt with a staffy/cross is getting them to pace.jshrew wrote:Nice, maybe will look at trying Ledger tho with canix he stops to pee far too much, mind you gonna try him on a parkrun see how he is when it more than just us two running a trail

Thankfully Ledger is happy trotting at my 9-10 min mile pace but definitely gonna look at the bikejor. Ignore the comments we had a few at agility thankfully when at shows the positives outweighed the negatives especially when they saw how quick he was and that he didn't eat all the small dogs
It's weirder at flyball as we are the consistent at the beginner class not many of the other owners speak to me when I rock up with a staffy but he is used as the example and again once they see his focus and drive back to me it does break down the stigma tho he has put a couple of out of control male dogs on zoomies in their place but they did charge up at 100mph and didn't react to his back off! The trainer has been very supportive of the other dogs being at fault which helps my confidence, and they don't do it again! Mind you he is in his element at the mo as its 4 other girlies and seems much more relaxed in general. Gonna be odd as we might be stepping up to a team soon so will update you if we get to compete

Love watching staffies doing flyball! its like the sport was invented for them. my friend Jenna used to do it with her two and was quite well known in the west of london. it got to the point where people wanted a staffy on the team for there break neck acceleration and super agile turning. I am ignoring the comments, there seems to be alot of snobbery and me on my cheapo bike and two cross breads seems to be putting peoples noeses out of joint. oh well just as long as the dogs have fun thats all that matters to me. someone even suggested i should run them the day before despite me saying i wont as they will need a 6 mile walk and it would be too much for them to run, walk and then run again the next day. i then got accused of wanting to push them to much on race day because of that... since when has resting your dogs constituded pushing too much!
