Next Week (Hopefully) Get Rescue Pup
Hi. I am new here but not new to staffies or bull breeds. Grew up with EBTs and have owned them, a mini bull and 2 staffs. But never had a rescue dog.
8 weeks ago, our beautiful, gentle and sweet bull terrier died aged 14. She was PTS on the Monday and by the Saturday we were at a local rescue to fill in forms and 'have a look' (I knew I wasn't ready for a new dog yet but thought it might be a long process, home checks and form filling in so thought we'd get a head start)... Having a look and a chat, they advised us to go on the waiting list for a pup as we have an elderly cat. We did this and I rang them most days to ask if they had any pups yet. They said they didn't and this was the longest time they have ever gone without any staffy or staffy cross pups.
On Friday, they had a large litter brought in and my persistence on the phone paid off, as I was the first to ring and be told about them. They said to ring them Monday but this morning (Sunday) I couldn't resist calling and they told me to come straight in.
When we got there several pups had already been reserved. I have had a beautiful red staff with white markings and a black face, and also a black brindle and white staff - and some of these pups were identical to our old black staff. But the other half of the litter were the sort of staff I have always wanded - white with spots. We were hoping for a white bitch and managed to get the last one. Back in on Thursday to cuddle her (as they had just been wormed so they'd only let us look at them through the glass; not pick them up). And Saturday, to pick her up. We will do the puppy classes at the rescue.
I feel a bit shocked as we waited for two months with no luck now suddenly, the pups were there and we were able to reserve one. And I managed to get my favourite one of the litter! She is not the biggest or the smallest and seemed lively without being the shyest or the most outgoing looking. It feels surreal as my 14 year old late bullie was the love of my life and has left a staffy shaped hole... I had a good cry at the weekend (feeling bad about looking at other dogs) but still think am ready. I'm at home all day so will be the one doing the training, walking and stuff.
So I have no experience of rescue but a lot of experience of bull breeds (third generation - my grandad and dad both had bullies their whole lives). Think the rescue will give us ongoing support and advice and there will be a behaviourist at the puppy socialisation classes. 14 years since we had a staffy pup. Wish us luck!

Re: Next Week (Hopefully) Get Rescue Pup
Well she is here - I have 2.4 KG of tiny staffy snoring her head off in her new basket - surrounded by ridiculous amounts of toys...
She loves the ats (it's not mutual), she loves our neighbour's old collie (who looks at her with disgust), she is settled and relaxed in the car (just as well - we plan on lots of day trips!) and I couldn't be happier with her and the Dogs Trust - who have been absolutely brilliant, with the level of info and support. Â Back there later in the month for puppy training classes!
Here is our little girl, Bee https://flic.kr/p/pTN9Ee (Bianca).

Heh, Mia - they were all rehomed within about 2 days I think! (A litter of 7 - half of them were black brindles with white markings and half were white and tan). We took a couple of photos of the whole litter, will have to upload and link later! (Hard to type with a staffy puppy on your arm!)

Re: Next Week (Hopefully) Get Rescue Pup
No - my old dog was the same. She was a total mummy's girl - had to have me to herself. She came to us as our second dog, when our old staffy was still alive - and they got on like a house on fire. But when he died, she seemed happier as an only dog. I fostered for a rescue a couple of times and although she was totally non-aggressive with them, you could tell she was always relieved when they went.
