Reverse sneezing
Tia frightened the life out of me earlier when she started having what looked like a fit.
I cuddled and calmed her down and she eventually fell asleep in my arms.
Just done a some research on the net and it looks like she had a fit of reverse sneezing. It seems weird that she should suddenly start going this at the age of 6 but the clip I saw on YouTube was exactly the same.
Does anyone else have any experience of this with their dogs?
Thanks
Cx

Re: Reverse sneezing
I have heard other users here talk about this but have never had a dog experience it.

Re: Reverse sneezing
It's quite common in some breeds. Shouldn't worry unless it becomes frequent

Re: Reverse sneezing
Honestly happens from time to time with mine until they finally get through it. Can be startling, but it is pretty infrequent and fleeting.

Re: Reverse sneezing
Thanks guys....you've really reassured me. Was beginning to worry that it might be something more serious.

Re: Reverse sneezing
I freaked when Ledger first did it but remembered seeing something on here and had an idea what was happening. Thankfully it has only ever happened a couple of times and last time it was easy for me knowing what was happening to just calm him down quicker

Re: Reverse sneezing
Meg does this. It's caused by a loose flap of skin on the roof of their mouths right at the back. It's easily cured by gently putting your hand over the nose for a few seconds, blocking the nostrils. I read somewhere that it's due to the long term selective breeding and the snouts being shorter and is common in dogs like this (especially Bulldog).

Re: Reverse sneezing
My two only had it for a couple of weeks at around this time of year as well. even though they were physically fit and happy they made a sound just like they were yaking up something horrid. i remember a few other dogs with the same thing but others in the pack walk never getting so much as a sneeze. must admit it really scared me at first as well but it tailed off pretty quick.

I liken it to someone snorting up a green grolly
