Reverse Sneezing
Does anyone have a Staffie that suffers from reverse sneezing - I think its all linked to my pouches allergies but just wondered if anyone had any tips onhow to deal with this. When she has a little attack I just tell her to calm down and stroke her neck and back and tell her its Ok and it soon passes but cna be quiet scary xx

Re: Reverse Sneezing
Loki does this but it doesn't cause him any discomfort or anything, so I just leave him to it, it's over in a couple of seconds. He doesn't have any allergies, so not sure if it's linked to it. As far as I know, there's no cure or help for it really, but if it's very often or seems to be bad, you could always take her to the vets?

Re: Reverse Sneezing
Found this: "While most dogs do not require medication, antihistamines and steroids may help if the problem is serious, chronic, and allergy related."
So if you think it's really bad, I'd recommend taking her to the vet. Maybe video it (if you can get it in time) so they know it's what you mean. Sorry I can't really give you any advice I wouldn't be panicking though, I don't think it's harmful, just that if it goes on often it's worth looking into.

Wow that sounds like a lot, is she under the vets care for this ?? I would think that this amount would have a counter productive affect after a while.

Re: Reverse Sneezing
This is just a thought.. but have you thought about the possibility of canine nasal mites (Pneumonyssoides caninum)?

Re: Reverse Sneezing
Thank you so much for posting this.. Molly has had this problem since she came to us. The previous owner said it's just something she does. I had never heard of this problem until now. I have just checked out U tube and found this..I will give it a go next time Molly has a bout of sneezing. Nope Sorry I posted the wrong clip and now can't find it.. But basically she just put her hand over her nose and lifted her nose so her teeth are showing, and it calms the dog. but there is a lot of info on the subject so take a look and see.. I'm so relieved to find out what it is, it is quite distressing at times and I do my best to calm her.

Cool. I just rub her neck to calm her down and tell her it's ok. It passes really quick but it's not nice for her and I get worried too. X

Re: Reverse Sneezing
best thing to do if you dog is reverse sneezing is to cover their nose with your hand forcing them to breathe through their mouth and it usually stops it immediately
