Reverse sneezing
Hi all,
Came home this morning from work to find my Staff x ABD looking like she was struggling to breathe. Watching her I realized it was reverse sneezing, BUT she has done it around 4 times today,
As soon as I cover her nose when she is doing it it instantly stops it.
She has never done it before so I'm going to get her to the vets tomorrow to double check, just wondering does this happen to anyone else?
Thanks

Re: Reverse sneezing
If it's reverse sneezing, this is very rarely a problem unless it inteferes with your dog's every day activities. A trip to the vet is definitely a good idea, in my opinion, just to ensure that the snorting isn't caused by something else.
It could be aggrivated by dust, so this is something to be aware of if it does turn out to be just plain old reverse sneezing. Things like antihistamines can help if you can't avoid a dusty situation.
It definitely does sound like reverse sneezing, as very often placing a hand over the dog's nose briefly will cause it to stop, which seems to be what happened when you did it. However, it's better to be safe than sorry, so I agree that a vet trip couldn't hurt!
Good luck!

Re: Reverse sneezing
Yeh my other dog is smaller but in the past when he reverse sneezed it was nothing like what she did. Her ribs and shoulder blades were popping out. Since i covered her nose it stopped in less than a second and she hasnt done it again

Re: Reverse sneezing
About a month ago both mine went through a bout of this. And to be honest it scared the crap out of me, marley started first and then laka followed. It only lasted a few minutes each episode. Good luck at the vets an I hope its something as benign as what my two had. At the time there were a few other dogs with the same symptoms which all cleard up after a week but never got to the bottom of what it was
