Home cooked meals
Koda is 7 mths now and has gone off his kibble considerably, so we are thinking of home cooking his meals. My OH is keen on cooking a mixture of kangaroo mince, brown rice & vegetables together. Is this ok, and what supplements are needed (i.e. calcium, brewers yeast) ?

Re: Home cooked meals
Well cooking the food isn't really raw. Have you considered raw without adding the rice and veggies which they don't need? No need for supplements either as they get everything they need from the raw meat, organs/offal and bones.

Re: Home cooked meals
Check out http://dogsdinner2.webs.com - That site was my go to guide when I started Marquez on it as it has how much and what to feed. He loves rabbit (whole), beef (meat/organ/offal), pork (meat/organ/offal/bone), lamb (meat/bone) and fish (whole). For some reason he prefers his food frozen.

Re: Home cooked meals
Certainly open to raw (my pref, less fuss & more variety), can't find the link to topic showing all raw styles and what to feed??

Re: Home cooked meals
Yes it does seem like that, my advise would be don't overthink or over complicate it, it really is quite simple
Basic instructions
Start with chicken
Add one new meat each week
Add offal after about 6 weeks
Then your up and running, roughly 80% muscle meat, 10% offal, 10% bone, split over a period to suit you. I do it weekly but you can do it over a longer period if that works for you.

Re: Home cooked meals
Saz gave a great basic run down. Do you know how much to feed though? If doesn't always look like enough food but they use every single thing they utilise just about everything and you'll find there will be a lot less pooling and drinking of water. If Koda's poo is very light coloured and crumbly, you'll work out the "how much bone is too much" question.
It does get easier over time but once you see the benefits you'll be glad you did it
