Coughing up white foamy spit
We were woken up this morning by Bane jumping at the door downstairs, which he never does so went down to see what was up. There were puddles of white foamy spit all over the floor. It looked like there was a bit of grass and a few little bits of bone from his dinner last night in some of the puddles and he has done it a few times since I have been up. The first time looked and sounded like he was being sick and he shook his head a lot but there is no bile or other food coming up, it is just clear liquid and a bit of foam.
He has done it a few more times since I first came down and it seemed to have eased towards the end with no more liquid coming up, just the cough/sick noise and shaking his head. I had to pop out and the OH said he hadn't done it since I had been gone, but did do it again when I got back so seems to be happening when he is up and moving around.
Has anyone got any ideas? Is it possible he has some bone stuck somewhere that is causing it? I'm going to try feeding him a little now to see if he keeps it down or if it irritates it again. He looks so sad and scared

Re: Coughing up white foamy spit
He kept his first lot of food down and we have just given him a little more. I have also given him some ice cubes as he is not interested in his water at the moment.
He was just going in circles a minute ago trying to get at his bum...I can't see anything there and he pooed fine this morning so not sure what's going on there...

Awww Bane. He could well have something he's trying to get out one end or the other. Keep an eye on him and if he's still out of sorts, perhaps pop him to the vet? Do you get doggy laxatives over there? We get a tube of something that must be really tasty and when I suspect they've had something that hasn't gone down well I give them a tiny bit - it works literally within seconds!

Inez, I was thinking there might be something up with those but there is no smell and he has been toileting fine today? Any other things I need to look out for?...He has slept for most of the day but hasn't coughed anything up since about 1pm so hoping he is feeling better.
I think dinner will be quite easy going just some minces and tripe/meat in case he did get some bone stuck!
Lisa, nothing comes to mind, but then again I have never looked for something like that! Will take a look around for something just in case Sounds like something good to have on hand!

Re: Coughing up white foamy spit
Flo had a similar thing the other night Emma. She's a bug catcher and caught a moth she frothed and shook some about so in her case I think it was just a bad taste in her mouth, oh just remembered, she also had he same thing when she stung her nose on some nettles whilst trying to get her stick
Hope Bane is ok and recovers quick.

Re: Coughing up white foamy spit
That may explain a couple of times this morning when he licked his bum and then coughed up a load of foam! Can't imagine it tasted the best Maybe it was a mix of that and something stuck!
Aw stinging nettle to the nose! Hope she was ok!

Re: Coughing up white foamy spit
Thanks Lisa! He had a few little coughs this morning and a splutter last night when he got up to go to bed but otherwise he has been absolutely fine the rest of the day Very random occurrence! I hope it doesn't come back!

Re: Coughing up white foamy spit
It is quiet scary seeing them froth for the first time, especially when you have no idea why. Good news it hasn't happened again
