feeling guilty....
Originally before we decided on Loki we are going to rescue as I have always wanted and it breaks my heart with all the dogs in the pound, but after looking most rescue centers wouldn't rehome a staffy with children, and mostly one as young as my son is.
my friend started working for a rescue center and we found a dog we liked he was gone before we made our decision,we decided a puppy would be best with our son and my friends rescue didn't have any to rehome,
I know how my friend feels about buying from a breeder and if circumstances were different and I was able to.rescue there wouldd be no doubt in my mind that I would.
I really don't know how to approach telling her...she just posted a picture of a dog who recently ran free over rainbow bridge from the pound, and I just feel awful...so awful.

Re: feeling guilty....
I think you have worded it perfectly above. Introducing an older dog is always a risk with young people about.
If you say it as tactfully as you have here, I'm sure she will understand.

Thanks, I think just seeing the photo of the dog and the story before she was PTS just broke my heart that little bit more, and I know what if we dont have him Loki could go anywhere so I know I'm saving his life, I just wish I could do more.

Re: feeling guilty....
It's very personal. I've worked in rescue for 5 years, and from what I've seen I could never bring myself to buy, especially a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. However, and this is a big however, I have had the training, experience and lifestyle to take in a difficult rescue. My sister has a baby coming in July and of course we're going to be very careful and introduce Biscuit to her slowly, but I know the signs and from all of the work we've done together I know Biscuit like the back of my hand, though she's been wonderful with all children that she's met in the last 2 years.
Don't feel guilty, the puppies have been born and have to go somewhere but maybe it's something that you could consider when she children are a little older if you'd like another? I had thousands of wonderful staffies pass through my doors with wonderful temperaments and no behavioural complaints, they were simply unwanted. I also had loads of puppies and young dogs under 6 months old. Remember, the horror stories are very rare, there are hundreds of thousands of bull breeds living in the UK very happily, having never hurt anyone of course there could be a risk, but rescue doesn't mean broken!

Re: feeling guilty....
Oh no of course, its not that I wouldn't rescue, it's that most rescues just will not allow me, my son Is only four,
But yes without a shadow of a doubt when my son is older rescuing will be the first thing on my to do list,
since meeting and choosing Loki I couldn't bare it if he,went to a bad home, I feel like I'm adding to the problem,

Re: feeling guilty....
Yes, that is a problem with rehoming, it depends on the shelter but they do have to cover themselves "just in case!"
But there are always going to be litters, and you're not adding to the problem by giving a puppy a loving, responsible home! You only would be if you didn't bother training or socializing and then dumped him in a pound a few months/years later. Which from your VERY excited posts, i'm pretty sure you're not going to do Enjoy him! x

Re: feeling guilty....
Yeah I completely understand why they need to.
Aha yes, no I would never ever do that, I have wanted a dog for so long, 3 years I've asked my partner and he finally said yes,

Re: feeling guilty....
You did what was best for your family.
When we decided to get another dog i looked into rehoming from the local dogs home. The only problem for us was we have a cat and they could not tell us if a dog was ok with cats. So we decided to get a puppy and for us it work out really well
enjoy your furbaby
