Split, rough pads
Anyone know what I could rub into Vins pads, they are so dry rough and slightly split. They aren't red or sore just so dry. I think walking in woods where its been so damp hasn't done them much good. xx

Vaseline or Neosporian. The latter will help with healing as well.

Neither one have ever hurt any of mine. I also use an ace bandage when in the house to keep them from licking.

just an observation , do you think you could be babying the animals here , which then leads to other problems down the line .
these are strong dogs not babies , and maybe to much pampering will weaken them

Re: Split, rough pads
I've put sudocrem on Ledgers when he has cut his pads and that seems to soften them a bit too luckily he never shows an interest in licking it, and it's not babying Peter it's trying to prevent the splitting which is painful for them and can lead to possible infection

Re: Split, rough pads
Peter I am very strict with Vin but his pads are so rough they are catching on the material of his blanket like when ya try to put a a pair of tights on and have rough split fingers, not that you would know about putting tights on!

Re: Split, rough pads
The constant changes in temperature can't be helping, I never really bother with hand cream etc but my hands had got really dry and split in the last few weeks one of the blokes at work swears by body shop hemp hand cream and gotta say it has worked wonders

How exactly would caring for a dog weaken them?
