Re: hyper puppy
I don't have experience with a puppy but Flo has Wainwright's. She has that mainly due to her allergies so not sure if it would help your situation.

Re: hyper puppy
I have never fed dry food to my own dogs, but always used burns for dogs prone to hyperactivity in kennels (collies, staffies etc)
Now that we can't feed raw (lack of freezer!) I feed nature diet personally, best wet food that I have found so far.

I have found that JWB makes Barney hyper for about an hour after feeding. I am thinking of changing. Not sure what to yet.

Re: hyper puppy
Okay, take a breath. This is normal puppy behaviour. He won't be scent marking at this age, he just doesn't have full control of his bladder yet. What are you cleaning his mess up with? And when he's mouthing are you redirecting him onto something suitable? Like a toy? I've fostered many puppies and always look like a self garner for a little while!! Please don't lose your temper with him, it'll only set you both back in your training. Take a break and go back to basics.

Re: hyper puppy
Yep that's normal, they have very small bladders! How often are you taking him to pee? And yes, needs a special cleaner, I use pets at home "stain and odour remover." The play biting thing was possibly always going to be a little more excessive considering the circumstances he was raised in with the breeder, it'll be trial and error as to what works for him and what doesn't, but you always knew he might be more work. The puppy stage gets to everyone in different ways, but the work you put in now will reward you times a billion when he's an adult keep at it!

Re: hyper puppy
I have been in this position many a time! I always thought I was a pretty patient person until we got Bane Seriously some nights I would just want to cry it felt like it was never ending! But they do get there
I found what worked best with Bane when he started getting jumpy and nippy was to not say anything and just turn around and ignore him or just stop and walk away from him so he could cool down (and so could I ) Garunteed he would come back to me with a sad face! Then probably start playing up again little bugger but you just have to repeat and be consistent
The constant weeing sounds a bit odd. We were taking Bane out to the toilet atleast every 30 minutes and evenmore than that if say we had played with him for 10 minutes and he'd gotten all excited we'd take him out again just incase.
Being so young he has so much he still needs to learn and it is hard but it is worth it in the end! Have you started training with him? The mental stimulation might tire him out a bit! Start with something like sit so that he can learn to be still for a few seconds It will keep him occupied and not munching on your hands!

Re: hyper puppy
Alan, he is very young and everything seems to take forever.
However, it feels longer than it actually has been! They are not doing anything deliberately, they just do not know. Think how long it takes a Human Baby to be toilet trained. Because of Nappies, nobody worries too much.
BE PATIENT. It is all worth it in the ends. Please think Months rather than Weeks, especially with the biting.

I agree with this and what everyone else has said. Puppies are A LOT of work and they really do push your patience and do drive you nuts. The last puppy we had even put a strain of our marriage and it was much worse than when we had a new born baby. I think that we are older too our patience isn't like it was when we had puppies years back. It was so bad that we swore off ever having a puppy again but we got through it and he was amazing after that initial puppy stage for that first year. When we lost that dog late last year we really couldn't bare going through the puppy hell stage but we missed having the love of a dog in the home we were willing to go through it all again. The love for dogs is that strong that we would gladly go through the pain and stress all over again because we know that it is TEMPORARY.
Good luck and please don't give up. The puppy stage isn't forever

I agree with all the advice you've been given, it isn't for ever Hun but whilst it lasts it's very hard work, I remember thinking what have we done! Remember Tyler is very young and that these things take time please don't consider giving up on him.

How old is he now? Are you able to take him out yet to exercise? Or do you play games with him inside/in the garden to tire him out? This would help a huge amount!

He is still young but what about starting some basic training with very tasty treats just to focus his attention (if you haven't done so already)?

Re: hyper puppy
Those early weeks are hard but you will get there in the end. when Lula was mouthing we just kept giving her the toy. When she chewed on the toy we would heap loads of praise on her. They don`t stop it straight away it happens very slowly.
When we took her into the back garden she would sit shivering and just wanted back inside. I got her a little coat and these kept her warm enough in the early days. A couple of footballs and tennis balls helped with getting her to enjoy out doors.
Hang in there it gets a bit better each day

Quite a lot of people seem to have the same problem with jwb! For a natural diet without raw feeding I would 100% recommend nature diet, Biscuit is doing so well on it!

Re: hyper puppy
Nature diet is wet food, I've never met a dog that won't eat it! They do a range for puppies too I order online through a wholesaler (berriewoods) and it works out at about 50p a tray, Biscuit is 20kg and eats 2/3 of a tray per feed, twice a day (plus treats etc) and is doing really well. Think the ingredients are 65% meat and then vegetables, seaweed and lots of other supplements to keep them tip top

Re: hyper puppy
I got Ron at 10wks and he had been away from his mummy for 5wks. He did a lot a nipping and biting instead of wasting money on toys I gave him a tea towel with a knot in it and one of my t-shirts with a knot in it. He still has his t-towel now all these months later.
I used to get really cheap single duvets and put them in duvet covers or pillow cases as his bed because they never last and this worked out the cheapest option to replace - I used to get 2 or 3 beds out of a £5 duvet.
For worming on petfleas.co.uk you can get Drontal puppy suspension much cheaper than PAH and that lasted me until he was 6mth.
For food he was having wagg puppy when we got him and stuck to that but now Im finding it hard to get him off - going to try to get him on arden grange which is a much better food.
I used to make frozen lollies using weak oxo cube with kibble in it and a puppy chew as a lolly stick frozen in plastic party cups.
Ronnie was crated through the night but I used to let him out for a wee in the middle of the night without talking to him and putting him straight back to bed. I went to let him out again about 6/7am on a weekend and took him back to our bed he settled until about 9am that way I got some much needed sleep at weekends. He still does this now but brings his own bed and sleeps at the bottom of our bed because he is far too heavy for our bed now.
Rountine and consistency works but like I said in another post I have wondered what the hell Ive done getting a pup sometimes.
As Charles Dickens said....it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
