I know training pays off and it wont be forever but my god getting loki to not lunge at another dog is driving me crazy, I make him sit which he does until the dog gets slightly closer and hes back up and lunging again, hes gettinf a big boy now and strong I wanna get him to calm down and say hello politely without thrusting his face into theirs

5 months is a hard age. You just have to socialize him as much as possible and have patience. Doesn't sound like great advice but the hard work does pay off

Yeah!! Hes out and plays every day with dogs, its just getting him over that initial excitment, when he sees another dog, when he calms down he will go lie down and he will sit for me when other dogs are running around and come back, but its like hes got blinkers on!! Need to learn to snap him out of it

So glad you posted this, I was just coming on to post similar and question what I'm doing wrong! I also have the problem of Casper jumping at other dogs and up at people..so far the people have said its ok he's just excited etc, which I know, but on the other hand I need him to learn now that it isn't acceptable as people aren't going to be quite so forgiving when he's fully grown and by the looks of it he's not going to be a small lad. It isn't just strangers he does it with..the slightest bit of attention from anyone, myself included and he's jumping up. So glad to see the others say perseverance with the training pays off!

How old is casper?? I do loads with him, hes ignored as soon as we come in so he calms down, hds not allowed to be played with in the house, so the house becomes a calm place, and when someone walks past I get him to sit and keep clicking my fingers and saying watch me. That completley takes his mind off other people and dogs as well.

He's 5 months. I get him to sit when people approach and make sure I keep his lead short, but the moment someone is close enough, normally when they come over to pet him, he's not so bad if they're just walking past, but if they come close he tries to lunge which is why I keep the lead short and if they pet him he jumps on them and will not stay sitting. He's terrible, even if I go to pet him he takes that as a green light to jump up regardless of how calm and quiet the house is.
