Toileting on concrete
We have just done a bit of work in the garden, dug some stuff up and put some new grass seed down. We don't want Bane to eat any of the seeds or destroy the work we have just done so have blocked off the garden.
There is a decent sized piece of concrete outside the back door for him to go out on and when it's raining he will just quickly squat there and come back in, used to go on it all the time as a pup and just a few days ago cocked his leg on everything between the door and garden.
Last night though we took him out, tried encouraging him. No luck, brought him back in. Took him out a few minutes later and still no luck so we left him out there for a few minutes by himself and he did eventually go, but it looked more like he was standing by the back door wanting to come in and it just came out because he was so desperate.
Is it a case that we will have to be patient and train him to go on the concrete? Has anyone got any tips? Does anyone know if one of those pheromone pee sticks would work?
Thanks

Ledger won't go at all in the yard but quite happy to in the bush the other side of the back gate and even when walking he tends to find a flower or tuft of grass to pee against

Seen them about just wondered if anyone had any luck using them at all?

Looks like I might have to get a small piece of turf for the concrete!

We've got the artificial turf in our garden. Great for washing down and cleaning up. She goes crazy for real grass when we out on our walks

Jax will happily go on the concrete if the grass is a bit damp, but prefers her grassy/dirt areas

Yep I walk him 4/5 times a day when I'm home all day most of those are just 10min spins around the park (directly behind the house) with the other being an hour+ or ball plays until he is tired
On the odd occasion that he has pestered in the middle of the night I've tried just letting him into the yard and still nothing, it was just one of the things we were matched with at dogs trust his previous owners lived in a flat

The sticks may help and we've used something similar in the past. Suki went through a phase where she would not go in the backyard because she wanted another walk

Re: Toileting on concrete
Artificial Turf sounds like a great idea!! I will have a look for some, didn't even think about that but would be much easier to clean! Thanks!
Yeah Jo that is what Bane does he will go around peeing up stuff at the park but as soon as he gets home will go out back for both! Sure he's just on a mission to kill our grass
Suki seems like she got the right idea then She's a clever one!
Thanks everyone for your feedback Hopefully we can get him going!

We only have a concrete courtyard outside the back of where we live Rocky quite happily pees on this. I hope the grass doesn't take too long to grow back

Re: Toileting on concrete
We managed to grab a little piece of turf earlier today but so far all he has wanted to do is eat it and rip it up Will try Home and Bargain, thanks Hayley
He did go toilet on it this morning but I think he was pretty desperate! So far no luck this afternoon!

He has just been on the concrete and I didn't have to wait half an hour for him to go! Was no where near the turf either
