toileting advice Empty toileting advice

Hi. I'm .just after some advice. When we got Skye I put puppy pads around the house and one in.her crate. She.tends to go inIthe.garden now ostly. With a few accidents in the house.but on a night she still uses the puppy pad in her crate. I'm.just wondering how I remove this as she's getting.bigger so it won't be nice for her to sleep where she's done her business etc. Should I get up during the night to take her out or will this disturb her sleeping pattern? was I wrong to put a pad in her crate in the first place?

Whether you are wrong or not to put it in is irrelevant now, but you will need to remove it to re-train her. Take it out and then you will have to get up for a few nights to let her out. What time is her last pee and first pee?

I tend to take her out side about 10.30pm and I'm up at 6.30am to let her out again. X

Hmm, I'm not sure about letting her out in the middle of the night, then she might not learn to keep it in all night. When we got Zeus at 8 weeks, he wee'd in his crate the first 3 nights and then after that, he learnt to keep it in and has done since. Maybe that's the best way to do it?

Well try her without it for tonight and see what happens, she might be able to hold it for longer but just uses the pad cause its there. If not then i would suggest getting up at about 12ish and taking out again, but not any later.

When Dempsey was a pup I used to get up at about 4am-ish to let him into the garden for a pee.

It won't stop her from learning to control herself overnight, but it will keep her more comfortable & happier in the crate. When you feel she can hold on overnight, just start to make the early toilet call a bit later each week (say 1/2 an hour later one week, then another 1/2 hour the next week) until you're back to your normal times.

I'm not sure Charlie will ever get it! If I don't put a puppy pad down or paper he just poops and pees on the kitchen floor where he sleeps Sad

they can't control their bladder until at least 11 weeks, but usually in the 3rd or 4th month. They are all different though x

I have found with Alfie that the only way i can stop him from peeing or pooing is the night is to have him on the bed with me - hes obviously too comfy and cant be bothered to get down. I know not everyone wants their dog on the bed though. You could try putting the crate in your room and if you hear her stirring in the night get up and take her outside?
