Excited Dog Empty Excited Dog

Hi all,

Whilst personally I love how excited our dog gets when I come home from work or trips away, and am probably very guilty of encouraging such behaviour, could anyone recommend some tried and tested methods to assist in calming him down just a notch or two. He is trained, however when the excitement levels kick up to warp speed, if we tell him to sit, he will run through his list of tricks in the hope of getting a treat.

One of the key reasons we would like him to calm down a bit is we have an 8 month old child who is now more confident in his crawling abilities. Brutus is well behaved and brilliant with our son, however the excitement levels can get a little to much and he often finds himself having time outs. Something I would like to try and reduce so that they can interact a little more.

Thanks in advance

Josh

my tessa was the same (they are all the same) we bought her a nyla bone and now when we get back from work she is standing at the front door bone in mouth tail wagging. any toy might do it but we went for the nyla bone because it's staffie proof.

He gets a 45 minute run a day as well as tug or agility play for 15 mins twice a day.

He could do with more, but even when getting two 45 min off leash runs a day he was really excited.

Will try the link that was posted. Thanks for your help

Try not to make a big fuss about leaving the home or when you get back, just quietly go about the things you need to do and try to ignore him.
