Caley Update
OK, it has been an exhausting weekend. As you know she had a op on Wednesday for patella luxation. Friday night one of Caley's stitches came out, how I do not know as she has been wearing cone, so Saturday morning I had to take her to vet. They cleaned the wound up and put 3 staples in (bless her she didn't even flinch). They also showed me the best way to carry her and how to actually deal with her. She also has the most horrible brusing and swelling - but apparently all normal.
Well since then she has started to accept the situation, she is not happier in the slightest but she no longer fights me to get her in her crate, goes in willingingly, she hobbles to the garden for a toilet (although my one worry is that today is the 5th day and there is no poop - plenty of wees though). I can only think that she has only been picking at her food, although yesteday she did eat a plate of wet wainwrights dog food. She is not in the slightest bit interested in her dry food, so I am hoping the poop will come. Apparently the painkiller she is on can make her constipated as well.
The sad part is watching her try to gnaw on the stag bar but she cannot grip it with her paws as that stupid cone gets in way, so it has resulted in me holding it while she has a good gnaw - bless her. Also the lack of sleep for everyone as that supid cone crashes against the crate...roll on Monday week when those stitches come out and that cone can come off. So all in all she is doing as well as I can expect at this stage. Going to be a long 2 months recovery.

Hi Debbie. Poor Caley
Those cones are awful aren't they. I've used a Comfy Cone in the past. Much nicer and you can bend it back for feeding etc

Re: Caley Update
Have you considered the soft cone alternative, it may not be so clunky as the tough plastic ones:

Re: Caley Update
I feel for you both.
Once this week is over it should get a little easier, hopefully.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery Caley.

Those cones look so much better...knowing my luck by the time it is delivered she would have had the cone off. Those plastic ones are th worst invention ever...
