Spaying - Normal or Keyhole? Empty Spaying - Normal or Keyhole?

Post by Nigglemoth Tue Jan 14 2014, 23:26

We need to get Milly spayed so I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on whether or not the keyhole approach is better? It costs roughly double but if it means she recovers faster then as Milly can be quite boisterous, it's probably worth the cost. However, I've heard that the method leaves them open to problems in later life.

Anyone know much of the keyhole method? Could anyone let me know how well their bitch recovered from the normal op? Milly is around 18 months to 2 years and we need to get it done soon as we don't want little Greyhound-Staffie crosses hairing around the place Smile

I wouldn't worry too much.. We always spayed bitches in kennels where they'd be lacking exercise and jumping around. I only ever knew of one to have real problems but she chewed her stitches.. Biscuit took a little while to recover but she had a tumour removed at the same time! Periodic crate rest with lots of chewys and kongs may help to keep her calm Smile along with short lead walks for the first few days!

I had heard the keyhole was the best for recovery, but I hadnt heard about problems in later life, what kind? Still most bitches have been spayed the normal way and have had no problems, just the recovery period keeping them calm.
