dilema!
Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I'm hoping for some advice.
I'm getting a staff puppy in February. A friend of mine came to me today and asked if I wanted her daughter's staff, she's a blue and 16 weeks old, kc registered, she was bought as a present by her then bf, they have since separated and she can't look after the dog anymore, her mum can't take her as she has just had twins and just hasn't got the time. I made the mistake of going to see her, and fell in love, she's not had much training and is as mad as a box of frogs, but still young enough to be disciplined. She is absolutely gorgeous, they don't even want any money for her, just a good reliable home, I can provide that, but, I'm wondering if I would be taking on too much, especially when Baxter comes in February! I really don't know what to do for the best :-(
Thanks x

Re: dilema!
Making sure that dog gets a forever home would be the best outcome, many people can cope fine with 2 dogs, just make sure you feel you can before you start.
The best thing thing you will have on your side is this forum who will help you with everything you need to know when it comes to bringing up dogs

Re: dilema!
if they male and female i cant see the problem its going be twice as harder then just having one but if you train them both the same and consistent i dont see an problem
Re: dilema!
A male and a female usually get on better than the same sex but there are exceptions to the rule as many of our members have proved. If you think you can cope and not have to re home one at a later date then go for it, but puppies are very very hard work, jees I wouldn't wish them on anyone one was bad enough two will be harder, let us know what you decide

Re: dilema!
From what I read you are getting Baxter (the male ?) next month and have just been offered a female too, it's not impossible but you must realise the implications of owning the two dogs:
Will you get either or both spayed/neutered in the future
The financial complications of insurance, food, equipment etc.
Are you able to put the time/effort into all the training
Do you have space for two dogs
If you can answer yes to all then go ahead and have fun, don't forget the photos.

Re: dilema!
Thanks for all your replies, much appreciated. After long discussions with the kids we've decided no to take her. It was a hard decision and I changed my mind a hundred times throughout the night. I think it would be too much to take on, she's already showing signs of bad behaviour and although she is still young enough to turn that around, I don't think I could dedicate the time before Baxter gets here. Had I have known about her a month ago then I wouldn't have committed to taking Baxter, I just hope they can find her a good home :-(
Thanks again x

A hard decision to make, but you have to do what is right for you in the end.

Re: dilema!
I think you've made a wise decision. As the others have said, it can be done but a lot of hard work. Personally, I would say that one staffie pup is more than enough of a handfull. It would be different if one was a mature settled dog. Why not check with the breeder you are getting Baxter from? She may have had enquiries for pups after her litter had all found good homes.
