Harry is home: he has prostatitis
Would just like everyone to know that Harry came home today. He had a scan this afternoon so is still a bit drowsy.
The Vets have discovered that he has prostatitis and he is on a couple of antibitiotics which he can now take orally. He has also had a Zartac injection which is used to chemically castrate a dog for short periods of times. They have used this as it will shrink the prostate during the next week and so give him time to get better as hes been through so much, and then he will have to be castrated. (Hes just 3 years old and an entire male)
Hes not in much pain now and the sickness and diahrea have stopped but it obviously hurts him to pee still. Hes very hungry because of being starved but I have to feed him small meals of Hills ID until his tummy recovers, and hes taking zantac for acid problems as a result.
It has been an awful week for him and I have aged 20 years with worry but he's at home safe with me and I now know what is wrong and how it can be put right.
Thanks again for your good wishes and support

Re: Harry is home: he has prostatitis
Thank God you now know what is wrong - at least you can help the poor boy!
When Dempsey had his bout of enteritis, I had to feed him Hills precription food, little and often. To start with I could only give him one tablespoonfull every hour, then 2 tablespoons & gradually built it up, leaving a bigger gap between feeding as it went on. It took about 2 weeks to get him back to eating properly, but it stopped his body rejecting the food.
Castration will obviously help enormously, and I would imagine your vet will want to get it done as soon as he's strong enough?

so glad to hear they know what is wrong with Harry and start the proper treatment. It is always such a worry when our beloved fur babies are sick.. they can't tell us where they are hurting, can they?
