Hi, me and Harry are new here, we'd like to get to know you.
hello everyone.
I was looking online for a lovely warm winter coat for Harry when I found this site.
I thought I'd join as it would be good to talk to other staffie lovers.
I got Harry at 14 weeks old, we were his fourth home in that small life. We were looking for another boxer but a very determined lady brought us this puppy that got so excited, he pee'd on our feet.
2 years on, he is still the love of our lives. He's very much a one person dog, he and my husband are superglued together although Harry is a kind and loving dog to me.
Everyone at our vet's practise loves Harry and our vet has even said that he wants to put a picture of Harry on his wall to say that this is what everyones staffie should be like, perfect weigh, coat and temperament.
Harry is pure muscle, he loves to walk or run. He is very protective of his ball though and although he gets on well with other dogs, he's not that bothered about them, prefering their owners.
His ball has more holes than ball but he will not accept a new one. He hides his chews for weeks but he knows where they all are. He doesn't have the comedy of a boxer but he does his best.
He hates the sound of the camera being switched on and my nail clippers.
As for me, I'm so glad we took him in.

thanks for the welcome there won't be lots of pics of my boy as he is terrified of the noise my digi cam makes. I have a pic of him with my hubby taken by our daughter last week. If I can work out how to download it here, I will.

Re: Hi, me and Harry are new here, we'd like to get to know you.
again, thanks for all the welcomes. I love seeing all your staffies.
I'll get the hang of this site soon [ I hope ]
I'm looking forward to talking to others, I'm actually agoraphobic and miss out on all the walks. Harry and my husband can have a break from me when they go out walking.
I love to hear about all the friends they make. I think everyone in Norwich loves Harry, people wait in their gardens for him and if they miss him, my hubby has to make the routine walk exactly right every morning, so not to disappoint people. Harry loves the postman and has to do his rounds with him. He sits at everyones gates now waiting for his admirers. I wish I could say the same about me lol

I'd like to share a laugh with you all. Neighbours had a black staffie, they called him Satan !!! He was an escape artist. This halloween, kigs knocked on their door, Satan did a runner as the gate was left open.
It was not long before we were all out in the street calling out " Satan " I think we were scarier than the kids, " come here Satan " isn't the best thing to shout when you are running up and down in your jammies looking for a dog.

Very appropriate name for an escaped dog on Halloween. They are all a bit Harry Houdini though.

Re: Hi, me and Harry are new here, we'd like to get to know you.
thanks, I'm still to thick to know how to put a picture up of Harry. As I said, he is terrified of the noise of the camera clicking on, he'll just run and hide shaking as if we were about to kill him.
I have some of him when we first got him but only one of him that is recent.
It's portrait, not landscape and as always, he is glued to my husband !!!
It's not a great shot of Harry but hubby looks good for his breed and age lol

Re: Hi, me and Harry are new here, we'd like to get to know you.
Hi,
Harry has just gone out for his evening walk. It's dark now but it doesn't seem to matter to him.
How much excercise is right for a Staffy, he has a walk with about an hours play with his squidgy ball in the mornings, he runs himself ragged. I have seen videos of him moving at nearly the speed of light ! How do their little legs keep those muscular bodies up?
He will now walk for about 1.5 hours at a good pace. My husband at 62 has always been fit but how will he keep up in 5 or 10 years time?
I think maybe a tennis racket will be the answer, but, a new ball seems to be out of the question for Harry, it soaks up water like a sponge now. When we move to the coast, can you imagine trying to throw a wet sponge far enough for such an energetic dog?.
Do they ever slow down?

Re: Hi, me and Harry are new here, we'd like to get to know you.
Hi again,
thank you all for your welcomes.
I have to admit that before I got Harry, I was dubious about having a Staffie.
They got such bad press. It breaks my heart that some people abuse these dogs or use them as some sor of I'm hard' status symbol.
It's who hold the lead, not what is on the end of the lead that are bad.
I have seen here people who love their Staffies as much as we do ours.
Isn't it time we change other peoples views on these wonderful animals?
Most Staffies don't do well in kennels and they make up a high percentage of unwanted dogs.
I don't have money, in fact I starve at least twice a week to be able to pay the Pet Plan insurance, to make sure Harry has what we believe to be the best of dried dog food (Burns) to be regularly wormed and protected from fleas and tics. He has an allergy to grass and pollen, he has to have anti histamine.
Is there any way I can help to raise the profile of these dogs? He has certainly changed peoples minds around here, where I live.
We are having to sell our house that we have lived in for 36 years because we are living beyond our means but it does mean we can buy a static Park Home by the sea, relieving our debt and also giving harry a beach instead of grass to run on.
There is no way we would ever give Harry up, apart from loving him, we have a duty to him.
I feel so sad for all those abandoned, for whatever reason, that will never have a loving home.
It's not fair on them.
Please, if you are thinking of having another Staffie, rehome one, as we did. It's worth it.
