Harry ate a frog Empty Harry ate a frog

Just took Harry out in the garden for a wee and the little so and so picked up and ate a small frog. I told him to leave it but it just made him all the more determined to eat it. His face was a picture he screwed up his whole face as though he was obviously eating something very bitter, a little fluid came out of his mouth and a little bit of foam. Brought him in and hes had a drink and seems fine, but I made the mistake of looking it up on google and read all sorts of horror stories but I think they may have been abroad where frogs and toads are poisenous. Quickly rang my Vet and he said he should be fine and just take him along if hes not right tomorrow.

Still cant stop worrying though and probably won't get any sleep tonight.

I'd worm him asap if your normal wormers don't cover lungworm. The trouble is, the wormers don't kill lungworm or get rid of it, they just help to prevent it. If he actually gets lungworm it'll be a trip to the vets for special treatment.

Other than that, though, he'll be fine I should think. Though why he'd want to eat a frog, I don't know! sick

Think it was a baby frog there are still a couple out on my patio. My neighbour has a pond. Would a baby be likely to have lungworm do you think?

I have some drontal in the cupboard but I don't think they do lungworm.

Any of them can carry the lungworm eggs, doesn't matter how old they are.

The chances are there won't be a problem - not all frogs/snails/slugs carry the worm eggs, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

He is fine thanks Lynne, no reaction what so ever. Gave him some panacur wormer just in case, as this covers lungworm and half expected him to have the dreaded runs, but nothing. Smile

Thanks for asking.
