Hi everyone

Just a quick question does anyone know the average weight of a 26 week old staffy. I understand that each dog is different and it varies with each. I have just weighed sasha and she now weighs 14.8 kgs and she measures roughly 13.5 inches to her shoulder. She looks a bit porky now and im just wondering if I should be keeping a eye on it. She has 2 runs a day and a 15 minute walk last thing at night. I know you guys are experts in this field so any advice will be appreciated !!!!i dont know

A little bit of puppy fat is nothing to worry too much about but if you do think she's chunky just reduce her food a little and see if that helps. Sound like she's getting enough exercise! Smile

At 26 weeks her weight sounds fine. But if you feel she's a bit porky then just cut her meals back just a small amount. She'll soon lose it!

Thanks ladies she used to have a defined waist and her underneath used to curve nicely upwards much like the picture in your advice link. I was looking at her today and and shes not so defined. I think we may be giving her too many treats during training even though she does run and run and run lol. Also I am giving her a bit of tray food in with her dry food both of which are wainwrites. Even though its a small amount should I take the amount of tray food away from her dry food if I should then ive a feeling I may be feeding her too mucheven though she does eat it all and then 10 minutes later shes sniffing around the kitchen floor.

Bruno is 17 weeks and has wainwright's tray food with dry. He won't eat the dry food without it but gobbles it all with the wet food mixed in. Little Rotter.

Sasha is gorgeous just how she is Smile

In winter i would not worry about a little extra pork. Assess her again in the summer.

Ok will do that thanks for all your advice as always. Sometimes think it was much easier bringing up my kids than a puppy. I feel very lost and unknowledgeable most of the time. I think we are getting somewhere and then wam something else comes up! !!!

I don't think it matters much whether it's summer or winter. A dog should be kept at a stable weight if possible, it's much better for their general health.

Don't worry! Everybody goes through the same thing!

Just remember to ask if you need help - there's loads of experience here, and there's normally someone who can help!

They are worse than kids but you can't help but love them. Bacchus was 4 months old at this time last year and I always kept him slightly on the chubby side. If you think that the training treats are causing the problem, why not measure out his daily food quota and use some of that quota as training treats. That way you will be able to kep track of his intake. But I wouldn't get hung up on it.

I love sasha to bits thats why I get so stressed. I would use her food as a treat only she doesn't eat it without something mixed in with it. I have cut back a little on her treats and food since saturday and upped her last walk at night from 10 minutes to 20 minutes and she is looking much better and seems not to be farting as much as before lol. Thanks everyone for your advice its very much appreciated xx
