Stud
Bacchus's breeder, who has become a friend, and is a responsible breeder, contacted me today to say she has a bitch due to come into season soon and wondered if I would be willing to let Bacchus cover her.
If I decide to go ahead does anyone know the going rate for a stud fee? Not looking to make this a money making exercise but would be interested to know where to start negotiations.

Re: Stud
I would take guidance from the breeder.
I think an average for a health tested clear stud would be around £150ish.
But - look into stud contracts and things like that x

Re: Stud
The easiest way to find out is to phone a good stud dog owner & ask what they charge. You'd then have to take some off because Bacchus isn't a 'proven' stud - is he hasn't sired any pups yet.

Re: Stud
Was just curious. I totally trust the breeder. As I said we have become friends over the past year and she dog sits Bacchus when we are on our hols.

Re: Stud
You could always negotiate with her. I wouldn't want a pup from the litter myself (father and daughter or father & son in the same house can be a problem), but some people ask for a pup instead of a fee.

Re: Stud
I've considered it with Tommy after being propositioned but decided the girl wasn't right for Tommy , Bachus is a fantastic looking boy though and think he mould make some beautiful pups . Is Bachus not still a bit on the young side though ( the one I was talking about for Tommy was in planning for around April next year )

Re: Stud
Bacchus is 14 months old - plenty old enough for light stud duties. Many are started a couple of months younger than that. Obviously you wouldn't want him being used too often until he's mature, but 14 months is ok.

Re: Stud
He is a great looking dog and in his photos he always has a sure and calm look about him so would probably make a great dog to stud from with the right bitch. I have to say I do trust your opinion about the breader and she must be doing something right to produce a dog like bacchus. Being the god of wine though you may have to keep the wee fella of it for a while as we all know what that does unless he intends to schmooze his prospective mate with a bottle of the good stuff and some nice doggy biscuits.

No, I find, as a senior citizen, Bacchus is quite enough to keep me occupied.Darcy-may wrote:Have you any plans to get another dog Rodger?

Re: Stud
I would be asking for the price of a pup so if she plans to sell the pups at £200, you want £200 lol

Re: Stud
Her pups normally fetch about £500 but as I said previously, we've become friends and I trust her to se me alright. I was just curious to know what the form was nowadays. I remember in the past it was a fee or pick of the litter.Hayley wrote:I would be asking for the price of a pup so if she plans to sell the pups at £200, you want £200 lol
TBH I'm more interested in seeing how his pups will turn out.
