Advice please
With calm dogs Moll is absolutely fine but with ones that try and bat her in the face she will put her tail down and then growl. I am walking her with dogs and going about trying to make her more confident and less scared and we are sourcing a trainer to get some one to ones.
My question is, if someone lets their dog come over to say hi etc (on or off lead) how do I tell them that she isn't always friendly in a nice way? I don't want people thinking bad of her (shes a lovely girl but of course I am bias )and secondly I don't want people thinking shes a nasty staffy.
I just wondered how people went about it?
Any advices welcome. Thank you in advance

Re: Advice please
I just ask them if their dog will walk past fine if not then please clip it on as he does not always like being approached , end of but with a nice tone in my voice , if they ignore me then they get worse

Re: Advice please
As a lot of people here already know, Dempsey is predictably unpredictable.
What I do when an off lead dog approaches us is...
1. "My dog isn't always good with other dogs"
if no response then...
2. "Please take your dog away"
Once both dogs are on lead & being introduced then...
3. If the other dog & Dempsey are sniffing nicely I'll ask the other owner if they are confident enough for me to let Dempsey off lead to play - notice I say if they are confident, not me! I'm confident that Dempsey is slow and lazy, so if the other dog darts & bounces about Dempsey will just spin round to face them.
4. If Dempsey's (or the other dog's) body language looks in the least iffy then I tactfully sugest that they are not really ready to play today!

Re: Advice please
I was walking her the other day past someone when a guy came up to Moll (she was on a lead) and he just let his dog pester up. I told him that she wasn't always good with other dogs but he wouldn't take it away. It just made me think about what I want/need to say to people in this situation

Re: Advice please
Thanks Caryll and Dave Just got me a bit fed up when I was out on the walk recently (not her but dealing with other people and their dogs). I always lead up my two prior to meeting other dogs as for one thing I don't know what theirs are like.

Re: Advice please
I can be quite scathing when others don't listen.
Eleanor will tell you that I can be quite embarrassing!
Bandit (my staff) was very da. I used to say the following...
" My dog isn't friendly with other dogs"
"Take you dog away, please. My dog isn't friendly"
"Take it away or I let him off the lead!"
The last would be when Bandit was lunging at the end of the lead, snapping, snarling & generally trying to eat the other dog.
To be honest, I'm not overly bothered what other people think.

Re: Advice please
sash is da but fortunately on our walks we dont see that many dogs, saying that i always have eyes in the back of my head,we do some times meet a couple of dog walkers in the morning and they know to pop their dog on the lead, which sash is fine with and sits and waits till they pass, just ask politely if they mind popping their dogs on the lead, most people are fine
