Don't worry about taking tablets for now - they may not be necessary. If they are, there are ways and means - wrapping them in cheese or liver for example; anything yummy for your dog.

First things first - has Lexy only recently been going at her paws? Does she do it all the time or only occasionally? Is it all 4 paws or only 1 or 2? Can you give us any photos of the damage she inflicts on her paws?

If you go and find my thread - Teddy Diary of a Rescue Staffie you will see a picture of him when he first came into my friends rescue.

Because we think he had been used in dog baiting he had his badly damaged tail docked. He was so stressed that he was constantly nibbling at the stump of his tail to the point it was a raw open sore. The thing that stopped him was Bitter Apple Spray. Don't know where my friend got it from but I have also used it to stop him chewing his lead. A quick google for it should find results.

Regards

Simon & The Tedster

PS just looked it up for you and Vet UK do it

The bitter apple spray can work! However I wouldn't put it on if she has any cuts/ sores! That would probably be very painful! Is it all 4 paws? Has she always done this or has she just started doing it recently? Could she maybe have some sort of allergy to something?

I use warm water to clean then dermacton cream clears it up a great, darcy suffers from allergies so we give her 1/2 a piriton tablet when it flares up but she's nearly one, so I'm not sure if its suitable for a young puppy, I'm sure someone will pop along soon with more advice Smile

Rocky always takes his tablets in a piece of cheese but it hasn't always been the case. He is a bugger for spitting them out again, but cheese does work.

No, I doubt that it's Wainwrights, either. It does sound like an allergy, though. Could be grass sap?

As above, a wipe through with warm water (I always add some salt to it), then a thorough drying & either dermacton or sudocrem if she won't lick it off!

That's interesting, Katy has been chewing her feet just lately. I've had a good look & can see some lumps which I thought might be bites. I know its not fleas as I did her a week ago, so could be the grass as you suggested Caryll.

This time of year a lot of dogs suffer sore paws, and I'm sure a lot of them are a reaction to just cut grass!

Moll started chewing/licking her paws and had sores between her pads that looked really raw and sore. The vet gave us surolan (you put a drop twice a day on the sore areas and rub in) and she has had to wear a cone. Good news is the sores are now scabs and her paws are looking so much better and she's not wanting to chew her feet. No tablets were given to us Smile

If yours does need tablets they do meat flavored antibiotics which Moll takes as a treat!

If they're bad can you not get the vet appointment sooner? I know from Moll's experience that once they start chewing/licking excessively the problem gets gradually worse

Diesel has this ongoing problem too Sad
we have been given two types of pills, those being Vetoquinol Clavaseptin and Chlorphenamine 4mg, to be taken twice each a day along with a daily foot wash of everybody's favorite Maleseb shampoo.

And it's done sweet FA!

sick and tired of pills here and pills there all with the same conclusion of "hmmmm lets try him on it for another two weeks" and thats with two different vets! makes me think that all new vets get trained in handing out pills and not actually finding out what is wrong.

now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, do I A: keep going back and filling him with pills for the rest of his life knowing its not doing anything. or B: tell the vets to go poke it and listen to guys that have previous experience with the issue and run the risk of the vet being a knosher and calling in the rspca (bit far fetched i know but would be my luck it will happen)

Hopefully Lexy will be feeling better soon Wink

I can't recommend Surolan enough. Her paws were a state, but now scabs have healed, no cone and she isn't gnawing her paws Smile

Poor little thing. Vets tomorrow and then she can start to heal.
