Broken nail help
Our Tilly has broken a nail on her back paw, it is sticking upwards away from her paw, she is walking fine, doesn't appear to be in pain nor did I hear a yelp or anything.
It has been bleeding but now has stopped.
Should I go to the vets?
Is there anything I can do at home?
I'm not loaded so don't have cash just like that, I'd have to borrow it.
Could I keep an eye on it overnight, can't get to vets until tomorrow now.

Re: Broken nail help
If it has stopped bleeding & it isn't bothering her I'm sure it can wait until tomorrow. Where has the claw broken? Is it near the tip, or right up by the nail bed?
I'd bathe it with a little warm salt water to make sure it's clean.

Re: Broken nail help
How did it happen? Are her other nails ok? If it was a trauma and there are no other symptoms then a fungal nail condition can be ruled out. If any of the others are weak or split this might be the cause and will need medication. If it is broke off right at the base but no pain I personally would clean it, cover it and bandage up with vetwrap. You need to keep it clean, an infection on her toe would not be nice at all.

Re: Broken nail help
It has come off altogether, she still runs and jumps around as normal, she Has the occasional lick. No other nails are broken or split.
Have no idea how, at a guess I'd say jumping at the fence as a new dog is yapping away all day.
We are going to clean it daily with salt water and keep and eye on her over the next few days, I it doesn't heal or she is still licking it well be taking her to the vets.

Re: Broken nail help
Poor thing!
As Lc says, you should really wrap it for a couple of days as it's really easy for an infection to start up when the quick has been damaged.
