Re: Dog Fostering!
Briiliant stuff 1 of our older members used to do it and was very rewarding , don't think he comes on now but used to get regular updates on all his different dogs , don't think I could do it though because of the emotional attachment

Re: Dog Fostering!
I believe it will be very rewarding but the OH is worried about attachment. There's pro's and con's to it but I think it would be fab for Shéara as well. I need as much advice as possible to make the decision, ive done all the research online, still yet to contact shelters.
Maria...where are you! You must have some advice

Re: Dog Fostering!
Kita!!! I think it is a fabulous idea I was a bit concerned about doing it at first as said, the attachment is just to hard to resist, but then I went online and had a look at all the shelters that had so many puppies and dogs being PTS as their time is up and no one fosters/adopts them, and it broke my heart, no matter how hard it is, im putting the fear of attachment aside, because knowing im saving a dogs life is much more rewarding than worrying about my attachment.
When I phoned the shelter yesterday they told me, after the process feel free to bring Rocky down to interact with the other dogs, get to know them ensure they get on well, also ensure that you are up for the fact that some of these dogs are not that well trained, as some owners just don't care about their pets like we do, but don't forget, no matter how old the dog is, we can always teach them new tricks! I would definitely enquire about fostering even if its just to get the facts, if your not ready now, at least you know the process, please let me know how you get on

I'd love to do it, but Dempsey won't allow another dog in the house.
Good luck, let us know what the rescue centre says!

No problem Im excited for you! cant wait to hear how it goes. I just did a google search for local rescue centres, there are so many here it is difficult to choose where to go, but I chose the closest one to me, im also going to see if there are any volunteering opportunities available maybe to walk some of them or help out! Update as soon as your back

Re: Dog Fostering!
Well, we never made it to the rescue today as the OH is still in two minds
I found Chelsea...she's perfect. So I rang and enquired and the woman was very unprofessional and basically said if you want her, we will send someone round to check the hight of your fence and then you can bring your dog and come and meet her, if you like her, you can have her.
Seemed a little weird and isnt the normal procedure, but Chelsea is the only dog in that shelter as they dont rehome dogs, it was Chelsea's last resort so they took her in.

Re: Dog Fostering!
we would like to foster eventually, we can't do it here, as the landlord has said no to another dog.
But we'd like to foster bullies or greyhounds

Re: Dog Fostering!
We're not particular on the breed we foster at all, she was the first one we came across and happened to be a staff, and a lovely one at that.
Greyhounds are fab, very lazy!

Re: Dog Fostering!
Id love to have another rotty to be honest but i think the amount of required exercise between a staff and rotty is too much

Re: Dog Fostering!
Did anyone look at the link I posted about Chelsea? Well the woman said she pass my details onto a volunteer that has numerous dogs that need fostering and she would ring me today. She seemed reluctant to let me see Chelsea becasue she didnt want her to have two homes :/ Does anyone else think its weird that she wanted to do a home check (checking the size of the fence in the garden) before id ever met the dog?
No one's rang me back so ill ring again tomorrow, the OH wants me to ring as well so im winning him over

I know right She's got the same markings at Shéara as well...think id have to change her name though, not a fan of Chelsea for a pooch.

Re: Dog Fostering!
Glad to hear the OH is coming around to the idea, but yes I do agree it is a bit strange that they want to do the checks before you have even decided on the dog yet! But that is the way they are doing it with me too, but they said I could see the dogs before the process was finalised.
I cant open the link for some reason though But im sure she is a beauty!
