Check this little fella out - the epitome of cute.
His name's Soda, he's tiny, and he's snoozing away right now.
He's on foster with me for up to 11 days.

I think it would be hard if you fostered them indefinitely to be honest, Lynne.
But I was delighted for Chloe - and all the more so as her new dad brought me up to speed tonight on the phone - she's had a day of swimming, digging on the beach, and lots of walkies.
She's found great adoptive parents and that's what it's all about.

He's a little bab, Caryll.
There's a lot of noise outside tonight and he's doing his best to give a tiny little growly bark.

He's at war with a smallish stag bar now.
Never tried them before but can see this thing lasting for about a year.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
He's incredibly well-behaved.
He's around 1 to 2 years old but seems very mature in his ways.
Bit of a curiosity really as he seems so small.
He's as quiet as a mouse, not shy, but not at all nosey - he just had a once round the house, then settled down.
Very chilled out, toilet-trained, only eats as much as he needs, and keeps coming over and leaning on me like an akita. Lol.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
He was doing good at the shelter - was kennelled with another lovely staffie and the pair were very relaxed.
But the rescue likes to get the dogs properly home assessed as well, which is very responsible in my view - hence this foster visit.
I suppose it's to see how they are with cats/birds/rabbits on a walk, see if they chew, if they're potty-trained, how quickly they settle, if there's food aggression, toy possessiveness and how they cope when you go out.
I think people tend to ask these questions, so it's good to be able to answer them honestly.
And, of course, there's a good opportunity to get good photos and videos too - bit difficult in kennels.

Good idea! Gives people more of an idea of their temperament away from the kennels.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
Soda's now been joined by his kennel mate, Tasha.
They're both as quiet as mice in the house.
Tasha is a little older and has had more training from the looks of it. She reminds me very much of my mum's old staffy, Gemma, who was a really faithful staffy and as soft as butter.

What a lovely pic!
So what sort of training do they need, or is it just a matter of seeing what they're like?

I'm really just making sure they know some basic house rules to make it easier for whoever adopts them.
Tasha has clearly had quite a lot of training - she's got all the usual sit, paw, into bed, lie down, etc off to a tee and is a really easy-going, happy natured staff.
She's really, really quiet but clearly quite relaxed, too.
Soda has had less training - he's found the sofa but doesn't know what "down" means, so that will be today's task, helped along by doggy treats.
They can both clearly live with each other - which can help someone planning to adopt either one to further make up their minds if they already have a dog.
Both are well loo-trained.
Soda cracks me up when he wants a wee - he literally dances by the back door.
I can see that both are good, if light, sleepers, and there's none of this middle of the night fussing, and tossing and turning.
Not a bark between them, or an angry word.
Tasha's the more wiggly one - likes to do the usual staffy wriggle on her back, and she's so happy that her tail doesn't go from side to side - it spins round and round like a helicopter.
I'm going to call Soda Mr Windy for today though - he trumps then looks shocked and pretends it wasn't him.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
This pair have, literally, had a ball today.
Soda didn't know how to play footie, but Tasha does.
So, she showed him the ropes.
I'm sure he thought it was a bit of a daft game judging by his face, until he got stuck in.
Then he loved it, and kept his nose glued to the ball for the best part of 15 minutes until he was tired out.
Tasha took over and happily retrieves and drops without prompting, which made for a great game of fetch.
Boiled chicken and rice each for tea, and now some staffie grunts and snuffles in stereo as they settle down for a sleep.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
She goes mad for the ball.
So does Soda now but Tasha always beats him to it - and he knows she's boss, so won't try to snatch.
They are both absolutely tired out after 30 minutes playing with the footie - Tasha's snoring and Soda is out for the count. Lol.

Ideally they'd be homed together but it's unlikely to happen - the rescue has lots of staffies in at the moment.

Shame they're likely to be split up.
But the main thing is finding them both a good home.

They've had interest this week but from homes with toddlers, so not really suitable IMO.

Wow wow wow well done to you. And I have to say this, but Tasha looks alot like my Pixee, its very spooky cos that first picture just above my post, looks like Pixee, I had a double take. She ever has a white on her neck too like Tasha and along her nose to forehead. Ever her front paws are white.

Twins.
Well, Soda and Tasha have gone back to the kennels.
They were both as good as gold here, but there are lots of staffies at the rescue who need home assessing, so I'll be taking in another one in the next day or two - a bitch who recently had puppies and somehow ended up getting dumped in the pound.
She's got a gigantic smile on her face and has recently been called Olympic.
I think I'll call her Ollie.
I was supposed to collect her today, but I woke up this morning to find I'd been grinding my teeth in my sleep and had completely snapped one off at the gum-line and presumably swallowed it, so spent ages trying to find a dentist who could sort it out - haven't found one yet - they're all too busy.
Anyway, here's Olympic, and I'll start a new thread about her foster time if the board is ok with that.

This link should make you laugh, Kathy.
It was about a week into foster. Up to then, Soda had pretty much just ate, slept and followed me around. He finally decided he'd have a bit of fun and got Tasha involved, too.

No idea about the pups. As far as I know, they didn't arrive at the shelter with her. I don't think her history is known but will find out more when I go to collect her for foster. Early indications are that she's very sociable.

He sounds just like our Fiver. We fostered him from North Manchester dogs home for two weeks though to be honest from the first second he entered the house he was never going back there.

Re: Fostering Soda & Tasha
Glad you could offer Fiver a forever home.
He's a good-looking boy.
I felt bad today - went to collect Olympic, who is kennelled close by to Soda and Tasha.
I got within about 20 feet of them and both Soda and Tasha went mad, then tried to lick me to death - only for me to leave with "another" dog.
Doesn't look like either have a forever home lined up - a few phone calls but seem to always be from people with toddlers.
