Dandruff?
Hi all,
My 8 month old Samson is shedding a fair bit so I have been brushing more than usual outside with a regular bristle type dog brush. However today I went to get him some new toys and bought a rubbery type of slip on hand grooming g tool. Tons of hair has been collected on it which is good but he seems to have dandruff type stuff in his coat now. He has been on wainwrights puppy salmon pretty much since I got him at 10-12 weeks.
Could it be his food or is it normal? How to combat it? Raw eggs any good or some type of supplement that may help? Or should I take him to the vets and get it checked?
Thanks in advance

Re: Dandruff?
It could be the weather making him shed more & affecting his skin. You could try adding some salmon oil to his food, or add a raw egg a couple of times a week.

Cheers for that! Put my mind at rest.
I know you feed raw yourself so your the person to ask. When should I give him the egg, morning or night? With kibble or instead? And shell and all or not?
Thanks again

Re: Dandruff?
I crack Lola's straight into her kibble and give it a little mix. Up to u really. Put the whole egg as it is unbroken in the bowl if u want... Be prepared for egg splat if u do though!!

Re: Dandruff?
I added a raw egg every other day to my pooch's food before he was on a decent kibble and his dry skin cleared up pretty quick.
Im surprised the salmon oils in his food havnt kept his skin healthy...id try adding a teaspoon of salmon oil every day or a raw egg every other day.

I used to feed raw, but don't now (Dempsey's a strange dog & has had a few stomach prblems - for some reason all of a sudden he wasn't doing well with it!). I'd still always recommend it, though!
It doesn't matter when or how you give the egg. I've given them on food, seperately, with & without shells. Some dogs have trouble breaking the shell, but once they've learned how it's no problem, but can get messy if they decide to carry it somewhere & then clamp down on it! Especially if it's your sofa!

Re: Dandruff?
Just gave Sam an egg and he loved it! He has left some of the shell so I guess he wasn't keen on the shell. I'll give him am egg every other day mixed with his evening grub.
Thanks again guys.
Really glad I joined the forum!
