Poorly Charlie
We have had a very poorly Charlie all over the weekend. He didn't eat at all Saturday and Sunday, lots of sickness on Saturday which turned to diarrhoea on Sunday and Monday, he got his appetite back a little on Monday and I gave him chicken & rice and scrambled eggs and he was drinking normally at all times so we thought let it run through and by Monday afternoon we saw an improvement, he chased the cat! and started playing with his toys although he still had diarrhoea. I got back from shopping yesterday to him not being able to push himself up out of his bed, he seemed to have no strength in his back legs at all so I took him to the vet. We were very worried! ~The vet checked him over, couldn't feel any obstruction, although he was tender and his temperature was slightly up. She did a blood test on him and gave him an antibiotic injection and some paste we have to give him orally for 3 days. She said to keep his diet bland for a while but today he is back to his normal self, walking fine, running around and STARVING!!! He's woofing at me now cause I'm eating and he's not!!! (gave him chicken and a few of his biscuits about an hour ago!) My question is.......how long do we keep him on the bland diet and when would you recommend feeding him as normal? ....(no diarrhoea since yesterday morning)
Thanks for your help,
Kay

Re: Poorly Charlie
Oh that is very true! Worst thing is we worry more as they can never tell us what is wrong or how they feel, how are we to know? We always assume the worst and panic!

Re: Poorly Charlie
Give the vet a quick call and explain his improvement and ask how long should you keep him to the bland diet.

Re: Poorly Charlie
Glad to hear Charlie is feeling better. Vinnie has had tum troubles the last couple of days. I must admit I sort of starved him yesterday and has only had small portions today but he is defo better. I would call vets as Kathy suggested.

Re: Poorly Charlie
When Caley was really poorly she was on chicken and rice for around 6 days and then we had to slowly add her normal food to this, so all in all about 11 days. Albeit Caley the vet wanted her to finish the antibiotics before she went onto normal food so her tummy could completey heal.
Originally Caley was very poorly on the saturday night, but bounced back by the Monday so we gave her normal food, come Tuesday she was really really ill, so even though Charlie is feeling better I would still be careful what you give him.

Re: Poorly Charlie
Just gave him chicken this morning but a few biscuits lunchtime with egg and after 2 normal poops today I gave him a little of his normal food with biscuits. OH had gone to bed early so tried giving him the Pro-Kolin paste on a bit of cheese instead of squirting into his mouth (which he hates!) and it went down a treat, fingers crossed it doesn't upset him for the morning
