Poorly caley Empty Poorly caley

Post by debtom Sun May 26 2013, 08:44

I have a very sick caley...poor thing went to bed last night absolutely fine but at 1:30am this morning she was violently sick and had chronic diarrhoea Sad

I sat with her to monitor but then she was sick again this time it was frothy but with bright red blood in it, not taking any chances we whisked her to emergency vet, poor thing was shaking, vet could not find anything obviously wrong with her, he gave her a sickness and pain injection and we brought her home.

I cannot get her too drink and she had bad diarrhoea again this morning she is just laying down sleeping so lethargic, I just don't know what to do with her Sad

Oh, Caley you poor little darling! >Big Grin< Hugs for both of you >Big Grin<

As Stella suggested, ice cubes are great ... I also found a little bit of broth from cooked chicken put in water and frozen helped with Chiquito when he was unwell. Perhaps a quick phone call to your vet as well ... if you are concerned it never hurts to have a bit of a chat with them.

I hope she is feeling less poorly soon xx

I will try the ice cube when she wakes up, she actually makes me want to cry (might be exhaustion though from being up with her lol). I have never seen her this lethargic she such a bubbly thing normally, we had a great day planned with her today as well Sad

Poor Caley I am sure she will be fine though I am a right worry when Vinnie is ill. She is probably tired out from being sick and losing fluids, but do try the ice cube it will help. Hope she is better very soon. Big Grin

Hopefully by tomorrow she will be a bit better. They tend to recover as quickly as they go down so fingers crossed. If she wants to rest let her, that's nature's way of recovering. Also they really know how to do the " feel sorry for me" expression.
As the others say, try to get fluids into her.

Big hugs from Bacchus.

Debbie, they are a worry sometimes aren't they, do you know if the vet took Caleys temperature ? Maybe that she is just feeling so tired because of being sick, it can take it out of them. I'm sure she will be back to her normal self in a couple of days, just take it easy with her.

Oh no! >Big Grin<

She'll be right in a day or two, just keep trying with the ice cubes and call the vet if you get (more) worried.

Def don't give her any food for 24 hours. I found this v difficult to do with Rupes as I felt so guilty. But having fed him chicken and rice for three days with his symptoms only getting worse the fast really worked. I was really worried. It is horrible. You just wish they could tell you what is wrong. Keep us updated.

Hi guys, caley has slept majority of day and managed to get a bit of water down her, her temp was normal. The last half hour her belly has been really gurgling, is this good or bad, she seems slightly brighter, still not herself though but trying to gnaw her stag bar lol

Awwww Caley will be better soon, sending hugs from me and Shéara >Big Grin<

Having a little to drink and wanting to chew her stag bar are good signs. Carry on with what your doing, she will gradually pick up. If shes not eating thats probly what the gurgling is.

Oh poor Caley - isn't it just horrible when they are ill.

It sounds as if she is getting over her tummy bug. It is most important that she gets some water inside her, and her tummy gurgling is a good sign - her insides are still working! She's a year old now so could go without anything to eat (although she must have some water) for 24 hours to clear her system. Then start again gently with cooked chicken and rice, or scrambled egg.

There again, tomorrow may (hopefully) find her bounding with energy and wanting to eat everything in sight!

Do let us know how she is tomorrow (Monday), meanwhile all >Big Grin<

Caley is loads better today, has been eating her chicken and rice and playing Big Grin

It's either her upset belly or the fact that she has started eating again, but she has been letting out awful smelly ones sick lol
