It's all gone wrong for caley
Caley came down really ill again last night, she had diarrhoea the entire night but would just lie there letting it run out...managed to get her vets this morning and they have kept her in for the day....we are heartbroken..they think its a bug but she needs iv fluid and iv antibiotic and they are running blood test, they know caley well and straight away new this was so unlike her, first time I have seen my hubby cry, we are so upset.
They are hoping to get her back to us tonight....I so hope so

Poor Caley, she is getting the best treatment now at the vets at least. Most likely to be some bug or other she has picked up. Please keep us up dated on her progress >< ><

If it's any comfort to you, Dempsey was kept on on i/v drip & i/v antibiotics when he had Giardia (sp) and he made a rapid & full recovery. Caley's symptoms sound very similar to Dempsey's.

Re: It's all gone wrong for caley
This has to be the most upsetting day I have had....
The vet called and told us that her bloods were clear and she had no temp but that she was still low and still leaking diarrohea but they think she is stressed with the kennel, we went at 6pm to speak to them and they took us to her as they wanted to see how she reacted, well when we first walked in it was as though she didn't recognise us, the vet then thought it might be best to send her pedicare overnight, but then thought she would try and let her out kennel and see how she reacts...she flew out of there and jumped over us...they said that was happiest she has been.
So they said to bring her home tonight and we have to take her back in morning for more in antibiotics and fluid....she has enough fluid in her not to worry about dehydration tonight.
So I have one poorly caley lying on her bed, still leaking, although I do think that has improved very slightly, she is still shaking a bit, she is exhausted she has not slept in 24hours.
At least I am back at vets in morning, I cannot fault them they have been great. I think I will crate her tonight like normal and change her pads every few hours, it's a routine she knows and might be better for her, not sure i will cope with another sleepiness night.
Also the vet said in the last couple of weeks a bug has being going around and she as had quite a few dogs with this, one worse than others.

Re: It's all gone wrong for caley
Y'know that's almost exactly what Dempsey was like. Do you know if the vet has tested for Giardia?
Be prepared for urine leakage as well, because the i/v fluids saturate their system & the bladder just can't control it.
Hope she spends a peaceful night at home. ><

Oh what a frightening set-back. Thank goodness you got her to the vets quickly and they put fluids and anti-biotics into her, and are happy enough with her progress that she can stay the night with you.
I do hope you all get some sleep tonight and that the news at the vets tomorrow is better. Get well soon Caley, we are thinking of you >< >< >< ><
Caryll, you mentioned Giardia - what is that exactly? I know of Parvo, but I think that shows blood in the diarhorrea?

Re: It's all gone wrong for caley
It's a parasite that causes intestinal breakdown. The following roughly describes it, but doesn't mention that it often results in diarrhoea that stinks to high heaven and can be very watery.
http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/infectious-parasitic/c_multi_giardiasis
When Dempsey had it, he had projectile diarrhoea ( ) that had a terrible smell, and at one point he was actually hemorraghing blood from his anus. Frightening, as he had all but collapsed, but he recovered very quickly once treatment had started.

Re: It's all gone wrong for caley
Sorry to hear that Caley is not feeling well. Bacon always seems to have something similar happen every couple of months. Every time, he checks out ok at the vets and they say it's probably a bug. After antiobiotics he's ok.
I'm sure Caley will improve over the next couple of days! I hope you and Caley are able to get some sleep.
Also, if Caryll is correct about Giardia, that's a tough one. I've had Giardia myself and it totally kicked my * for 2 months before I went to the doctor to figure out what the heck was wrong with me!!!
