Progress
Most of you know Dragon's story and how when I got him he attacked a few dogs, I've been working with him since I have a lot of free time and we've done an amazing this year.
First he got on well with Sasha a staffy cross, he played with her and knowing him I thought he would hate her since she was to hyper and was always jumping on him, but he loved her and if he did get annoyed he walk away even though she would chase him and bang into him to get him to play but he never ever tried to bite her or anything like that.
Secondly 2 days ago he was sat next to a big dog not trying to pull towards him nothing just sat there panting and enjoying the sun, when I first got him he would defiantly would of pulled towards him but not now so that's a big plus since he never ever pulls on the lead anymore even when there's a dog.
And last thing, we've been walking with 3 king charles cavalier spaniel (2 girls and 1 boy) for the past 2 days or so and I noticed how well behaved he was on the walks with them and he could even walk next to them and it was like he didn't care about them, so today we got him to sniff the girls (not the boy because he's quite protective over the girls and he's very old) first girl he sniffed her fine and then I walked backwards, so a quick sniff for him to start learning if you see a dog sniff and say hello then walk away (for now I want him to walk away just so he gets used to it), the second girl he didn't care about sniffing her he just stood there looking at me and panting. I think he liked the other girl and wanted to go play with her that's why he didn't care so much about the other girl.
So yea this is a big improvement, actually in my opinion a huge improvement... Maybe one day I can take him to the dog park and enjoy seeing him play with other dogs.

Re: Progress
Sounds you are making solid progress there and Dragon's behaviour is improving, he is also growing up and calming down, well done.

Re: Progress
He is very calm with people and dogs that he likes, for example Sasha, he was soooo calm didn't even seem like the same dog that attacked dogs in the past.Kathy wrote:Sounds you are making solid progress there and Dragon's behaviour is improving, he is also growing up and calming down, well done.
I would actually think if his behaviour improved and he got on with dogs, he would be an amazing therophy dog, since he's sooo calm with people and loves to be touched. I've said this before but I was actually quite scared of dogs since I've had bad experience and never really liked animals and Dragon made me realise how soft and amazing dogs are and I'm not as scared as I use to be, and my family always had dogs, that's also a reason why I think he would a be good therophy dog

Re: Progress
I suppose when it's nervous aggression, with the right training and effort, you can make progess and help them see that not all dogs are to be scared of. Glad to hear he's made progress and I hope it continues

Re: Progress
Its easier to train a dog not to be scared of dogs than to train a dog that is not scared but is still aggressive, but it's very hard at the same time because you need another dog and know a few people with calm dogs, I would go up to random people and ask them to let my boy sniff their dog the problem is if they're dog starts moving to fast most likely Dragon will nip them and most people have small dogs and if dragon bites one of them the other dog wouldn't be ok...Tara wrote:I suppose when it's nervous aggression, with the right training and effort, you can make progess and help them see that not all dogs are to be scared of. But soon I might just ask every person I see with a dog if their dog is friendly and if my dog could sniff their dog, so he gets used to greeting other dogs and see that they're not something to be scared of.
